Obamacare hoping to influence High Holiday sermons

Post by Gil Dobie »

Just think if Bush had used the pulpit to push anything :o

President Obama held a conference call Wednesday with more than 1,000 rabbis--from all the major movements-- to pitch his health care plans in order to shore up flagging Congressional support, hoping to influence their High Holiday sermons. Later in the day, at about 5:30 p.m., Obama and Domestic Policy Chief Melody Barnes hosted a mega conference call sponsored by Faith in Public Life, Christian-oriented group, Faith in Public Life (I say this based on looking at the clergy affiliations on the board) with 140,000 people on the line.

It's part of a coordinated outreach effort to faith based groups as make passing the Democratic health plan a moral imperative.

It's all the rage now...
using religion to forward political agenda
which convinces me more and more that all politicians are simply douche bags

Thanks Bush for setting up the faith based network so Obama can exploit it...

I don't think anything Bush did here is really relevant. Politicians have used religion and "family values" for years now (that includes Mark Sanford and John Edwards). What do you think the war on drugs is all about? Or banning gambling, prostitution, gay marriage, etc.?

Obama is doing whatever is politically expedient. "Bearing false witness"? OMG, you've got to be kidding me  You know for a guy who doesn't want religion to interfere with politics, he's doing a damn good job of looking like a hypocrite.

So much for being above politics

Of course, you conveniently left out his tidbit:
What stood out about the call is that Obama "is a master communicator," Moline, the rabbi of the Conservative Agudas Achim Congregation in Alexandria, said in an interview after the call ended.

"This was clearly a message that was tailored to us," and not merely a generic stump speech, he added
.

Yep, sounds like they were all pretty upset with him.

Why should they be upset? Figure the seperation of church and state groups might be upset though. They spazzed out anytime Bush said God Bless America.
