Nova beat JMU head-to-head and finished with the same record in the conference.SuperHornet wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 10:06 am Given the current field (the presence of UNI aside, though they DO have a win against at least one seed), I would have seeded it as follows:
1. NDSU
2. SHSU
3. Sac State
4. JMU
5. Montana State
6. Villanova
7. Montana
8. EWU
I rationalize dropping undefeated SHSU due to the SOS inherent in their schedule. NDSU's is much higher by comparison. While neither played any FBS games, NDSU beat FOUR playoff teams. Actually, I find JMIU and SHSU pretty much a crapshoot in that they had no FBS games and avoided playoff games almost completely. SHSU did beat one, skating by SFA by one point. I'll leave SHSU in 2, but bump Sac past JMU on the basis of Sac's 2-1 record against playoff teams, and the fact that Sac's P5 loss was relatively decent, counterbalancing the regional loss to UNI. MSU is a bit further back, with a 1-1 record against playoff teams, a VERY close FBS loss, and decent performance against bubble teams who didn't make it. Villanova is further down with a weak schedule, though they DO have a win vs. a fellow seed. Montana comes next because they have a 1-2 record vs. seeds, but they DO get a seed because they have a P5 scalp. Last comes EWU; while they are 2-1 vs. seeds with an FBS win, UNLV doesn't come close to a P5 (Montana's FBS win), and the Eagles tailed of to some degree at the end. The one I dropped out of the seeds to encompass EWU was ETSU; while they DO have a P5 scalp, that is counterbalanced by a sub-D-I game and the fact that they have NO games against playoff teams....

That's one reason I downgraded JMU somewhat.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Re: The Field
It would have to be 20-0 to win by 20. That or you need turnovers that lead to scores. UNI's offense might be maddeningly inconsistent but the defense is legit when they're not playing prevent.SDHornet wrote: ↑Mon Nov 22, 2021 10:00 pmLol. That was our 2nd game after going 90 some odd weeks prior with no games played. We play UNI at home now and we win by 20.kalm wrote: ↑Mon Nov 22, 2021 6:52 am
True. And you also shit the bed against a “subpar opponent” at home. Lost by 18. Like I said, recency bias. At best, your resume is as good. Or do you really think top 5 in the polls and Massey, 9-2 Big Sky team with 3 quality wins including an FBS shouldn’t be seeded?![]()
Good luck in Missoula in 2 weeks.

Do you think the secondary is on par with the Montana’s and Weber?

I haven't watched enough Montana or Weber games to say. The UNI DBs gamble more than I like but they're pretty damn good. Omar Brown is a shutdown corner and Bennie Sapp III is a stud at safety. They have playmakers at all 3 levels on the defense.
How good is the Eagle's O LIne?

Very good at pass pro especially considering the blutzingcweve seen. Solid in the running game at times but have failed in a couple key short yardage situations.UNI88 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 12:23 pmI haven't watched enough Montana or Weber games to say. UNI's D LIne is excellent, especially Brinkman (FCS Aaron Donald). It will be interesting to see how much penetration they get and whether they can contain Barriere.kalm wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 12:58 pmVery good at pass pro especially considering the blutzingcweve seen. How is the Eagle D Line? They might be facing the biggest O Line they've seen.

Better than in the spring when we got run over by NDSU but not great and undersized compared to that kind. The LB’s and safeties are solid but again, undersized.

Much of it. That last 4th and 3 against the cats was straight zone. Doesn’t make sense to not have it in EB3’s hands in that situation but we’ve seen it way too much. Hopefully that changes with McCann calling the plays now.

I was watching that and thought how awful a call that was. I fully expected EWU to make a game winning drive, fortunately for us Hornet fans we had Montucky cleanup your mess and help us get our ourtight BSC crown.

"Need Cal to win".
That is like last night during the Apple Bowl when the announcers said "All Washington State needs now is for Oregon State to beat Oregon and Wazzu is the division champs". Okay.
Not sure whom Cal is playing but needing Oregon State to beat anyone is usually wishful thinking. Needing them to beat the Ducks is delusional.

SD knows my likely responses to THAT, so I'll just keep my mouth shut. LOL.
(I mean the aftermath of a Taylor departure to Cal, or anywhere else, not whether or not I want it to happen. Given the results Taylor has generated so far, I'd be in favor of his pulling a 50-year tenure, should he want it.)
