Don't the workers benefit by the companies remaining open so they get paychecks?
That is part of what the Dems want to guarantee - that the bailouts will go to keep workers employed.
The Dems could take the high ground on this if they focused on protecting workers but they've added so many unrelated requirements to the bailout that they've proven once again that they're just as bad as the Republicans.

No, it won't. Just like SARS, H1N1, Ebola, etc., etc., etc.....NONE of this shit was required, and none of them destroyed our economy.

We are literally sacrificing our country and our freedoms and our way of life for a few thousand people, most of whom would have probably just as likely died had they contracted the flu this season.
You still don't get it, do you.
I get it, John. I've done a shitload of reading on this. Unbiased, scientific sourced reading...not dem talking points but actual medical journal type reading on this--stuff written by experts. Bottom line: We are destroying our country for nothing. Unless this thing takes off and kills several million people or something like that, it will very quickly turn into a giant attempt at a power grab (see the wet dream list put forth by the dems to be included in the stimulus package). And unless there's a fundamental shift in Chinese culture, we can rest assured this is going to happen repeatedly. You ready for that, Chicken Little?

Agreed - the Dems had a chance to ride this thing out and let Trump be his own worst enemy, but they couldn't stop themselves from screwing this up and they jump right into crapper with this one. When Trump gets another 4 years to run this thing this could very well be the moment that Dems look back on for when exactly they screwed it up. All they had to do was get money to the American people and they couldn't even do that. :ohno:

Things Democrats want in their relief bill:
What the hell does most of this have to do with getting through the pandemic? :?
I think donks are going to pay a political price for this.
No, they won't. The current donk voter fully supports trying to cram shit like this into every bill that comes along. It's their wet dream to have the chance to try and slide some of this crap in....
Trade all of that for a line item veto

I think the fact that nobody reacted to those other things like they're reacting to this should give you pause. China did not act like it did in this case for no reason. It's not a regime that gives a shit about what the media say (well, except that they crush the media if they say something the regime doesn't like). And it's never done anything like that before. What's going on in Italy is not normal. It's never been seen before.

I think questioning whether we over reacted is legitimate. But there is something going on with this that is causing governments to react in ways they've never reacted. Also there is something going on with this in Italy that is very atypical. This is not something anything close to what happens there with the typical seasonal flu.

I think you should consider the possibility that an awful lot of people are seeing this as potentially worse than SARS, H1N1, and Ebola in terms of overall impact. The Chinese didn't take the draconian measures they took just for fun. And the Italians aren't experiencing something that happens every year.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Fair points. Still doesn't justify destruction of a country or the global economy.

And Italy's atypical response has pretty much been explained already. Population skewed towards the elderly, less than ideal living conditions with multiple generations under one roof.

“But one thing is extremely clear: Large American corporations are not in immediate jeopardy. Despite the recent stock market crash, we are not currently experiencing a financial crisis ― a breakdown of the credit system in which healthy companies cannot obtain loans to continue operations. With the Federal Reserve’s announcement on Monday that it would be providing unprecedented, direct support to both small business and large corporations, the central bank ensured that firms can get access to government-backed loans with no strings attached.

The Fed has never done anything like this. Usually the Fed supports banks, not manufacturers, airlines, hotels and retailers. But the American central bank recognized the scope of this crisis and acted accordingly.

Given the Fed’s support, there is no excuse for the corporate bailout legislation that Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) are pursuing. It offers too little help to the people who need it most, and outrageous gifts to monopolists, billionaires and corporate deadbeats. Republican leaders are demanding $500 billion to distribute as Mnuchin sees fit, with no disclosure for six months, no curbs on executive compensation, no limits on shareholder giveaways, no requirements to retain workers, and no meaningful oversight mechanisms. The public would receive no share in the upside to its investment. If companies on public support go bust, we eat the losses. If they prosper, we don’t even get an interest payment.

It’s ridiculous. The terms McConnell and Mnuchin want are substantially worse than those included in the infamous 2008 bank bailout bill. The last go-round, we at least got to know where the money went. The GOP wants a blank check, to be kept secret for six months.”

The Life Tabernacle Church hosted 1,825 people at their Sunday morning service.

26 buses were used to pick people up from around the Baton Rouge area and transport them to Sunday service.

Pastor Tony Spell says the way to handle a pandemic is through the healing hand of Jesus.

That is our command, they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover.

Social distancing did not happen at the service, held outside. All 1,825 people were spread across the campuses seven buildings.

Throughout the service parishioners could be seen touching each other and closely gathering, very few wearing masks or gloves.

Spell says if anyone in his congregation contracts covid-19 he will heal them through God.

“I’m going to address that by laying hands on them and praying for them and depending on God to heal their body,” Spell said.

:ohno:
A little more insight on which American people the Republicans are sending it to....

I don't like what the Republicans are doing either that's why I posted "The Dems could take the high ground on this if they focused on protecting workers but they've added so many unrelated requirements to the bailout that they've proven once again that they're just as bad as the Republicans."

I didn't take a Republicans are good and Democrats are bad (or vice versa) approach. Both sides are looking to take advantage of this crisis to feather the nests of their supporters and both sides should be caned.
