At first glance, the only things I can see wrong with the list itself is that Montana isn't listed as every others team's rival, and two Big Sky schools would actually consider Idaho State to be a rival

why the governor's cup? ewu only joined in the 90's.BlackFalkin wrote:Doesnt look too far from the truth, man.
These are the ones I AM SURE OF.
Montana vs Eastern Wash - governor's cup
Montana vs Montana St. - Brawl of the Wild
Eastern Wash vs Portland St.
Weber st. vs Idaho st.

Don't try to understand Black Falco's reasoning, or lack thereof.weberwildcat wrote:why the governor's cup? ewu only joined in the 90's.BlackFalkin wrote:Doesnt look too far from the truth, man.

So you are tellin me, you are unaware of a rivalry thats been alive for *at least* 7 years? (from what i know personally) You people must pay attention to whats goin on in the ENTIRE conference.weberwildcat wrote: why the governor's cup? ewu only joined in the 90's.

EWU is almost the same distance from us as MSU and could never unseat MSU as our rival but they have long put us on their list as their rival and to be honest they are the next closest to MSU for us. There are many, many Griz fans and alumni in Spokane and I will travel to games in Cheney but will no longer go to Bozeman for games. They don't have a great stadium or anything but I have always had a good time when I've went there for games. EWU has just forged themselves into being a rival on a level above all the rest of the conference except for MSU.ilovebaker wrote:Eastern Washington has rivals? I would have thought that Gonzaga and Eastern would be rivals, but didn't the ZAGS drop football like 40 years ago...
In all honesty, a UM and Eastern rivalry would kinda make sense, they really aren't that far away from each other.

Good to see you spreading your talent around over here J. Keep up the good work and post you predictions over here as well if you don't mind, they are always a good read.JALMOND wrote:As far as Portland State rivalries within the conference I can think of two...
Portland State/Montana---Comically referred to as the "Don Read Bowl" as Read did wonders putting both schools on the football landscape. When PSU joined the Big Sky, Montana was already top dog, yet the Vikings enjoyed success in Portland during the last part of the Walsh era. Also, Read heavily recruited Oregon when he was at Montana, and as a result there are a lot of Griz alums in Portland and the rest of Oregon.
Portland State/Sacramento State---Maybe a small rivalry, but these are the two urban campuses in an otherwise rural conference. Also, there is a strong rivalry between the cities of Portland and Sacramento in other levels of sports, primarily the NBA and the PCL.
Portland State/Eastern Washington---I would not call this a rivalry as nothing has happened between these two to create a rivalry. Not even much between the Portland area and the Spokane area either. Besides, we've beaten Eastern in both Cheney and Portland the last two years. This year they want to try Seattle. Why would you want to play a rival somewhere other than your own backyard?

How 'bout Chadron State?BigSkyBears wrote:I know we're new to the conference but we could use a rival. Anyone want UNC for a rival?

No rivalry because no history. EWU has not beaten PSU since Glanville has arrived. Not in Cheney, not in Portland. Now EWU has scheduled the game for Seattle this year. Where do you want to play next year, Yakima? Why would you want to play your "rival" anywhere other than your own turf? Why play somewhere that is closer distancewise to them than your campus?BlackFalkin wrote:who creates these rivalries? anybody know?
bc Eastern & Portland could be a rivalry, I mean we all hated going to portland and playing in a baseball field but hey! WSU & U dub wont dare schedule EWU in football,

It was a joke you idiot, I dont like portland state, dont forget how many times Eastern has killed PSU.JALMOND wrote: No rivalry because no history. Not even any history between Portland and the Spokane area in any sport. Nothing to get excited about in this matchup, other than the usual conference game hype.

Maybe if EWU could actually beat said team. You can't beat us in Cheney (28-21), you can't beat us in Portland (47-36). Now you want to try to win in Seattle. (yawn), whatever.BlackFalkin wrote:It was a joke you idiot, I dont like portland state, dont forget how many times Eastern has killed PSU.JALMOND wrote: No rivalry because no history. Nobody cares about PSU
Let me know when PSU can WIN THE CONF,
LET ME KNOW WHEN PSU CAN GET TO THE PLAYOFFS.
Let me know when PSU gets outta that baseball field.
My question to you is the following:
What good would it do eastern to make a rival outta a team that cant win the conf?

Or if you want to schedule it in some farmer's bull pasture, I'll be there, too, you Beverly Hillbilly.JALMOND wrote:Maybe if EWU could actually beat said team. What good would it do PSU to try to make this a rivalry when EWU can't beat us? We'd rather turn our attention to a challenge (like Montana).
The joke is Eastern trying to beat a Glanville coached team. All the other conference teams have done it (except Northern Colorado). Why can't the all-powerful Eagle team?
I may be an idiot, but I know EWU has not beat us since Glanville has been here. Nothing you can say can change that. LET ME KNOW when EWU can beat PSU again. I will be there, even if your athletic department schedules it in Sprague or Ritzville.
