Playoff projection thread
Re: Playoff projection thread
Both are powerful offensive teams fairly well balanced but Furman leans toward the run, Austin Peay the Pass. Unfortunately for Furman they will bring their 276 yd/game running attack up against an 87 yd/game rushing defense. They have a much better chance throwing. The Austin Peay pass defense is a little suspect. Leading with the run Furman should set-up the pass and the win. The GAM forecasts a tight game with Furman the favorite.

Yes, but they could have just as easily been sent to Monmouth and put Holy Cross (who really doesn't even deserve to be in) at SELA.AZGrizFan wrote:Nova never bids. Their own damned fault. Furmen won’t go far.
Whofferd is peaking and could be a semifinal team. They have really improved over the season.

The Towson with a similar strength of schedule but no wins against a ranked opponent, much less a seed?89Hen wrote:Had Towson not lost, they would not be in.kalm wrote:

Yes. Had TU beaten Elon they would have been in over UND. As it was, they were "first out".kalm wrote:The Towson with a similar strength of schedule but no wins against a ranked opponent, much less a seed?89Hen wrote: Had Towson not lost, they would not be in.

Agreed. They were a lock at 8-4. But they didn’t beat Elon which makes UND easily ahead of them.89Hen wrote:Yes. Had TU beaten Elon they would have been in over UND. As it was, they were "first out".kalm wrote:

Correct. Had TU beaten Elon, TU would have been in & likely UND would have been out, with Furman the last team in. I'm surprised SELA wasn't listed in one of the last 4..89Hen wrote:Yes. Had TU beaten Elon they would have been in over UND. As it was, they were "first out".kalm wrote:

As it was TU was one of the 1st 4 out, but we don't know if they were the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th team out. I'm guessing the 1st team out was SIU, but with this committee, who the hell knows.

Yep. If the last 4 in are #21-#24, I think TU beats ELon they're # 23-#24..If the 1st 4 out are #25-#28, I think losing to Elon dropped TU to #26-28kalm wrote:Agreed. They were a lock at 8-4. So three of the top four from early November are in the semis. Only #4 didn't advance. I feel somewhat vindicated.kalm wrote:Not really.89Hen wrote:
IMO there is just a huge chasm between top 4 and the rest of the field. I'd actually be OK with a I-A four team format this year. The rest are just so mediocre.

APSU fans got their first taste of playoff action. They want more and along with the increased exposure, recruiting success, and donations have a shot of elevating their programs which is good for an already improving brand. I’m sure the businesses that prospered in Clarksville and the book store weren’t complaining either.89Hen wrote:So three of the top four from early November are in the semis. Only #4 didn't advance. 32 will insure an even greater amount of new blood and perhaps some upsets and Cinderella’s.

And going back to 20 (which could do now with only 10 AQ) would insure less garbage gets in.kalm wrote:APSU fans got their first taste of playoff action. The only way 32 would even have a remote chance to happen would be if the SWAC, MEAC, and IVY ALL joined for playoffs as AQ conferences, which would require 13 AQ, minimum 26 teams. And even then a 26 team field would be more likely than 32 simply because of cost containment. 26 would be simple- 6 teams get a bye, 20 play 1st round, down to 16 2nd round.
Div II does 28. 4 teams get a bye, 24 play 1st round, 16 play 2nd round. The reason they do 28 instead if 32 is because of $$.

Bottom line going back to 20, or going to 32, aren’t happening.

You don’t have to care or watch the first 3 rounds if you’d like. Many of us do.
