Re: Playoff projection thread
OK. This is probably going to get me in a bit of trouble, at least partly because the NCAA doesn't seed all the way through and doesn't regionalize the tournament, so I really don't know how they go about crafting the play-in matchups. Plus, there are a few in here many of you will argue over, like my inclusion of 7-5 Eastern Washignton and 7-5 Towson State. C'est la vie....
Play-In Week:
SELA at Furman
EWU at Villanova
C. CT State at Griz
U of San Diego at Monmouth
Albany at SEMO
Nicholls State at Kennesaw State
Towson State at IL State
Austin Peay at Wofford
Sweet Sixteen:
SELA/Furman winner at #1 NDSU
EWU/Villanova winner at #8 UCA
C. CT State/Griz winner at #4 BBQ
U of San Diego/Monmouth winner at #5 UNI
Albany/SEMO winner at #2 JMU
Nicholls State/Kennesaw State winner at #7 SD State
Towson State/IL State winner at #6 Kitties
Austin Peay/Wofford winner at #3 Sac State

MEAC could have placed a team but FAMU is ineligible for any kind of postseason, so that did them in.SuperHornet wrote:Question: Are ANY of the HBCUs playing ball with the playoffs? Or are they BOTH out for the bowl payday?

So the reveal show started 11 minutes ago, and STILL I'm seeing NOTHING on the Interactive Bracket. Is anyone else having problems? I'm about to shut down here in my classroom and head on into church and check back in later....

Had Towson beaten eLoan as expected yesterday, that would have been the field.89Hen wrote:Field is pretty close to being a done deal, no?...

Looking forward to playing MSU in two weeks if we get by San Diego.
It's a win either way. Griz win and exact revenge or Bobby Hauck loses to MSU for the 3rd time in two years and eGriz explodes.

We won't play MSU again this year unless we both make it to Frisco.SeattleGriz wrote:Looking forward to playing MSU in two weeks if we get by San Diego.

Yeah, I just saw that. I was looking at a prediction and didn't know it. They put it in a nice looking bracket.uofmman1122 wrote:We won't play MSU again this year unless we both make it to Frisco.SeattleGriz wrote:Looking forward to playing MSU in two weeks if we get by San Diego.

No worries! I'm glad we avoid Sac and MSU (and NDSU, obviously) until a potential Chipper rematch.SeattleGriz wrote:Yeah, I just saw that. I was looking at a prediction and didn't know it. Don't like the idea of two option teams potentially coming to Missoula if we win our first game, though.

I agree, that conference is traditionally soft and I don't think this year was any different. Should be some cakewalks for teams playing the Big Fluffy in this bracket.89Hen wrote:Big Sky with 4 of the top 6. Dumb.

My thought as well.Wildcat Ryan wrote:SDHornet wrote: I think the fact that we played all three, and went 2-1 will help. But either way, will it matter?
Sorry, new to this whole "playoffs" thing.
I dont think it really matters, only difference is would you rather play NDSU in Frisco or Fargo

Re: Playoff projection thread
Furman: They shouldn't have gotten in, IMO. They have several lopsided wins over weak teams, but no notable victories. Their best performances were probably one-score losses to Georgia State & Virginia Tech. They lost to both The Citadel & Wofford by 3 scores, however. They are run heavy—and very good at that (6.1 ypc)—but with a suspect defense.SDHornet wrote:So anyone know anything about Austin Peay and Furman?
Austin Peay: They beat both UTM & SEMO to secure the OVC autobid, but they had two bad losses earlier in the season (Tennessee State, ETSU). They have a solid offense and a very good defense, especially against the run.
I think Sac matches up better to Furman than AP, but I'd be kinda surprised if Furman beat AP in Clarksville.

Being AT Southeastern Louisiana is probably the result of financial bidding.89Hen wrote:Wow did Nova piss off somebody. @ SELA and then @ Montana if they win.
That said, I find it interesting that Central Arkansas is a seed while Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana are playing the first weekend when both Nicholls State (34-14) and Southeastern Louisiana (34-0) beat the crap out of Central Arkansas.
I guess the difference is that Central Arkansas beat its FBS opponent so that it had 3 losses instead of 4. But Central Arkansas opponent was a CUSA team...which nowadays is like a Sun Belt team. Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana played Big 12 and SEC teams.

Re: Playoff projection thread
The committee head did say record against ranked teams and team in the bracket were important. Nova was 0-1 against teams in the tourney. SIU was possibly the best team NDSU played all year, but they were 0-4 against teams in the tourney, therefore they stay home. Home games in round one go to the highest bidder. UCA tied for first in the Southland, beat a 7-4 FBS school, and was 1-2 against teams in the tourney. SELA got in because they beat UCA and finished 3rd in the Southland.JohnStOnge wrote:Being AT Southeastern Louisiana is probably the result of financial bidding.89Hen wrote:Wow did Nova piss off somebody. @ SELA and then @ Montana if they win.

UCA: Like Gil said, was 1-2 vs the field- they lost to Nichols and SELA, but OOC they beat Austin Peay and played 2 G5, winning 1. They also didn’t los to any non playoff teams.JohnStOnge wrote:Being AT Southeastern Louisiana is probably the result of financial bidding.89Hen wrote:Wow did Nova piss off somebody. @ SELA and then @ Montana if they win.

Nicholls: Yeah was 2-0 vs the field, and lost 2 I-A games, but they also lost to TWO non playoff teams: SHSU & Abilene Christian. If they had only lost 1 of those, they would be seeded instead of UCA.
SELA: Like Nicols, los to TWO non playoff teams McNeese & UIW. Also only 11 games/7 wins (yeah I know they had a game cancelled due to a hurricane threat), so even if they hadn’t choked against Nicholls last Thur, they wouldn’t have gotten the seed over UCA.
