You won it up front with 7 sacks and forcing 6 holding penalties against an all senior OL. I figured Taylor would get the offense more consistent but Andy Thompson has that D playing really well.

You guys could do some damage. Nice win!
I thought this game was going to turn into a shootout. It probably would have had Barriere not had to go out with an injury. I like what Taylor has done to this offense, but last night I thought he got too cute in the 3rd quarter, specifically when we were up 14 and instead of pounding it with Dotson, went jet motion QB option dance in the backfield sweep around the end option into a INT. :ohno: The type of play calling from that big 4th quarter drive should have happened a lot sooner.

I lurked the EWU board and I'm not getting the folks calling for Barrieres head. He's a damn good and athletic QB that gives EWU the best chance at a win every week. Hell his replacement last night is awful. Maybe it's an offensive philosophy thing but EWU should be going read option every play with Barriere getting more called runs in. Oh well, EWU should wi plenty of games the rest of the way out.
EWU fans should be more concerned with how their running game has regressed. They averaged 6.6 ypc last year, but they're averaging a middling 4.1 ypc so far this season.

1) we’ve down to our 3 and 5 backs since Lindenwood. I know...next man up, etc it is what it is.

2). We played from behind against Idaho and SAC. As SD pointed out, Barriere is an athlete in space and can be effective when he’s set up by the run 1st. But he’s not an established true passer who can make quick reads and beat you with his arm from the pocket.

Running game was fine against UND. Custer is a more than capable back and that white guy (Silas?) is good enough to pound the rock for short yardage gains. The running game would be fine if Berriere kept it more on the read option and attacks the edge.

Barriere is clearly not a pocket passer, but that is ok. If EWU had more designed rollout passes out of the read option then this offense would be scary considering he could always take off if his first 2 reads aren't there. My point is that I don't think EWU's problems on offense are personnel related.

I agree. He truly seems more accurate throwing on the run.
