Personally I think using people as pawns is cheap and petty, (and I have been in your shoes in the past) but in the end it is a choice we all make to work for who we do. In my case after 8 years of BS I had enough and decided to move on. And I realize your situation is different as you are close to retirement (if my memory serves me correct). But when it comes down to it, isn't that life? We make choices and balance the trade-offs and go on down our path.
And I am not trying to be sarcastic or belittle your situation in anyway. Just trying to maybe lend a bit of perspective to the situation. If I came across any other way, my apologies. It will not be my first failure of the day nor will it be my last I expect.
