No....like State of Texas land that belongs to American citizens....not that you would give a **** about that since it doesn't affect you personally.

:coffee:
Spare me the sanctimony. You have no aversion to taxing them into oblivion

But you’ve inadvertently hit on an idea -

Let only Texans decide - I’m perfectly cool with that

Yeah, they do. I thank them for their service. You, on the other hand, would just be a coattail rider, which is kind of the impression I already had of you. It's ironic that you'd call me the snowflake.
Indeed. 93 and I don't always get along but he is the last person I would call a snowflake.

Cool, so all the folks that haven’t served (which is like 98%) shouldn’t vote, or indulge in the rights granted by the constitution at birth. Got it.

The shutdown was also revealing about certain posters on this board. I got an offer of support from one poster who I wouldn't have guessed. I was fine, because I keep my own fiscal house in order, but the gesture will never be forgotten.

Others just sit on their asses behind a keyboard, like you, and treat the well-being of others like it's a game. That reveals your true nature, IMHO. :twocents:

Just to play devils advocate here, but how is working for the government not like any other job in which you can be terminated at will?

I could be let go today and if I do not have my ducks in a row, I am shit out of luck. Your situation stinks. I agree. If I was nearby and you needed a hand, I would lend it. But I am not and I try to make it a practice not to loan money to strangers. :)

Personally I think using people as pawns is cheap and petty, (and I have been in your shoes in the past) but in the end it is a choice we all make to work for who we do. In my case after 8 years of BS I had enough and decided to move on. And I realize your situation is different as you are close to retirement (if my memory serves me correct). But when it comes down to it, isn't that life? We make choices and balance the trade-offs and go on down our path.

And I am not trying to be sarcastic or belittle your situation in anyway. Just trying to maybe lend a bit of perspective to the situation. If I came across any other way, my apologies. It will not be my first failure of the day nor will it be my last I expect. ;)
Exactly.

My guess is that Texans would vote against the wall. And I think that would especially be the case if the point about taking people's private property in order to build it were to be featured in the debate.

And BTW, if there really is a credible poll that really does say that 61% of Texans oppose building a wall while 35% support it it is extremely unlikely that you'd see an actual election go the other way. Things like that do happen. Like the RealClearPolitics average of polls for Clinton vs. Sanders during the 2016 Democrat primaries had it at Clinton 58.7 vs. Sanders at 37.3 and the actual result was Clinton 48.3 and Sanders 49.8. But it's very rare to see the polls be THAT wrong.

I think it's even MORE likely that people in Congressional Districts along the Texas border would vote against the wall. That's because all of the US Congress people who represent those Districts are opposed to it. I think that tells us something.

In any case we'll never know for sure because there will never be such votes.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth

No hurry, boys. Take your time.
It’s crunch time for lawmakers seeking to reach a deal on securing the border that would prevent the second partial government shutdown of 2019.

Lawmakers warn they have just a matter of days to reach a deal that could then be considered by the House and Senate and signed by President Trump by their Feb. 15 deadline.

Without an agreement by then, about 25 percent of the government would again shut down.

Negotiators say they face significant hurdles to reach a deal, including how much money to spend on physical barriers.

“I hope that we will do our job. Will we? That’s the question of the hour,” said Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Some lawmakers already have given up on the soft deadline they had set for Friday. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said that a deal essentially needed to be in place by then to give Congress time to consider it.

Maybe, but if you fire them off in the air on your front porch then all is well.
