Just to play devils advocate here, but how is working for the government not like any other job in which you can be terminated at will?

I could be let go today and if I do not have my ducks in a row, I am shit out of luck. Your situation stinks. I agree. If I was nearby and you needed a hand, I would lend it. But I am not and I try to make it a practice not to loan money to strangers.


Personally I think using people as pawns is cheap and petty, (and I have been in your shoes in the past) but in the end it is a choice we all make to work for who we do. In my case after 8 years of BS I had enough and decided to move on. And I realize your situation is different as you are close to retirement (if my memory serves me correct). But when it comes down to it, isn't that life? We make choices and balance the trade-offs and go on down our path.

However one might characterize my attitude towards Trump, I formed it WAY before he won in 2016. I'd say it became firmly established the first time I saw him in a Republican debate. At the time my wife, as a then-member of the State Republican Central Committee, was still in "whoever the Republican is we vote for them" mode.

I told her that if Trump won the Republican nomination I was going to opt NOT to vote for the Republican for the first time in my then-58 year life. I said he appeared to be very emotionally immature and unstable. I said he acted like a 10 year old. She said "but we HAVE to vote for the Republican." I said, "Not if it's him. No way."

Shortly thereafter I became aware of how frequently he lies and the extent to which he had cheated and conned people throughout his adult life and became even more steadfast in my disgust for him. All of that happened during 2015. I didn't find out that the idea that he is a good businessman is a fraud until sometime in 2016. But that was still well before the election.
