I'm not saying he's for gender ID laws, but it sure read to me like baldy pointed out that Canada has instituted a law regarding this and cleets is saying it's no big deal. It IS a big deal IMO. Those old, strange laws don't get enforced often because they are old and strange. If you add a NEW law to the books, you rest assured they WILL enforce it.

Colleges and Universities have classes, hell entire degree paths dedicated to this. Canada has made it a crime (an actual punishable offense) to "misgender" someone.

Yeah, that's a really "small" crowd. :dunce:
Mmm Hmm...
You can also get a degree in Auctioneering and Bagpiping
Mississippi State offers a degree in "Flower Arranging"

as far as "the law"
it's also against the law to fuck your sister and I don't see any arrests in Georgia on that one

Would you like to see a list of all the unusual "crimes' in Georgia that are still on the books
How about a list of dumb college classes you can pay money for

Fox News has bamboozled you into thinking this is "Yuge" and a very serious problem
The huge crowd of protesters below also agree with you that this is a huge problem
Image
I'm curious, where exactly can you get a degree in auctioneering and bag pipping? Virtually every institute of higher learning from the Ivy League to lowly little directional universities in the US offer some sort of gender studies degree. I sure would like to compare the two.

Silly or not, Mississippi State offers a degree program in Floral Science, not "flower arranging". MSU has a YUGE and highly respected horticultural program (actually the Dept of Plant and Soil Sciences). Hmmm there's that dirty word again...science.

Virtually every civilized country in the world has laws against incest...consensual or not. There are untold thousands of people, adults and children alike who are sexually abused by family members everyday. How are those unusual crimes? Please explain.

Granted, the are some really stupid archaic laws on the books, however the gender identity and gender expression law in Canada went into effect in 2017. What's their excuse?

You had to have set some sort of record for the number of strawmen in one single post.
I'm not sure if it was on purpose of not, but congratulations anyway.

and since you actually seem to be serious
Which I find even more surprising than being dragged around by your nose by Fox News

I'll reply sincerely
Firstly there are almost zero (very nearly zero) universities that don't offer stupid classes
So having Gender Studies offered should surprise nobody (even Fox News)

Secondly the degree in Gender Studies is really a human sexuality degree
where you can specialize in genders or whatever aspect of sexuality you so choose

There is no Gender Studies degree that comes without firstly becoming an expert in human sexuality

Lastly
The list of stupid laws enacted for whatever reason is virtually endless
If Canada wants to write up a "hot new law" to show they're cool with the kids - then whatever...

But like most stupid unnecessary laws - like the cousin fucking laws in Georgia
it will simply function as an inert stack of paper

No. You and Baldy just supported a meme that’s says government should author more laws...specifically to back up a soft science like gender identification. Libertarian fail.

Please point out where I said anything even close to the "government should author more laws".

My intentions for posting that article couldn't have been more clear, and government oversight certainly wasn't it.

It's not ignoring science. There are edge cases addressed in the article. How should the government decide those?

The government should not be deciding gender, period.

Welp

I read the article

There’s a lot to unpack, but I have a couple takeaways from it

The article is a bit disingenuous - it conflates hermaphroditism with gender dysphoria... two completely different things

But before I go there, I agree with the premise of the article (but not the pathway Nature takes to their conclusion) .... the government should not be involved in this any more than it should be involved in marriage...

In fact, even less so - there are no tax breaks for being gender confused

Back to the deception (intentional, I think) in the article

The cases they describe where children were surgically altered were ALL hermaphrodites. There is no indication that *any* of them were suffering from gender dysphoria (though it would be understandable if they were). But Nature thinks that government having a clear definition of gender is somehow misguided because back in the day doctors used to cause distress by assigning gender to hermaphrodites via surgery. First of all, that doesn’t happen by fiat anymore. Second, those cases are MUCH more rare than gender dysphoria - which is NOT a gender issue... it is a mental health issue. The entire article is one big straw man argument.

But the government should not be concerned with what gender someone thinks they are. There is absolutely no justification for it.

Come to think of it, why do we have HHS again?

I disagree; it sets up for the protection of rights. Guarantee half the states would go back to full-racism, sexism, and every other discriminatory practice if the federal government didn't tell them that a female is a female, or a black person is a black person, and had laws which protected them.

Same applies here.

I didn't even realize there was an article in there.

You posted an image, trying to make fun of the left's selective disregard for some science and I quickly shot a hole clean through it. To be honest, you and I would hopefully agree on the ridiculousness of codified gender ID and the legal ramifications. I'm well to the right when it comes to that shit and also feminism.

We don't need government to tell us what equipment someone was born with nor do we need government defining anyone's gender.

Take a deep breath and read CID's post above. Everything will be OK in the end.

We seriously need the government to tell us that people with penises are men and people with vaginas are women? :suspicious: My daughter is 4 and she fully understands that concept. I think we can deal with more important things. Besides, anti-discrimination laws already cover gender.

Your comments really don't jive with democracy. We don't need the government telling us things that we already know to be true. The government does need to make sure we have clean air and water. The government does need to hold corporations and such accountable for defrauding or deceiving the public. The government does not need to tell me that a person with a penis can choose its gender. Science has already determined what a man and woman is. We don't need to be catering to fringe groups or the very small minority groups. What next? Can I choose my own race? Can I choose to have my DL say I have green eyes even though I have blue eyes b/c I feel like I should've been born with green eyes? It's ridiculous. :tothehand:

Last time I checked, being human sets you up for the protection of rights

creating special classes of people is bad policy although you obviously don't understand that

I also notice that our government can hardly pass a useful budget so maybe its time would be better spent there than trying to look under all of our tails
