Votes: 3,194,927

2018, Beto O'Rourke

So, for over $20 more a vote, the Democrats got about 200k more votes...

And that's the thing - Beto had all that money, all the support, and he still lost to basically the anti-Christ. Talk about coming up short. On the "Blue Wave" metaphor:

The level of public sentiment with the Democrats in 2018 was on par with the level of public sentiment with the Republicans in the 2010 and 2014 mid terms. I think it's likely that when all of the votes are counted, in fact, the Democrats will have won the overall combined vote in 2018 by a larger margin than the Republicans achieved in 2010 and 2014. It's just that, due the structural disadvantages, it did not translate into as many seats.

Republicans won the overall combined vote by 6.8 percentage points in 2010 and by 5.7 percentage points in 2014. I heard one talking head this morning say that the Democrats had a 7.5 percentage point edge in the overall vote this time and that it would probably increase because votes in California are still being counted. This evening Meet the Press Daily put it at a 6% edge for Democrats and Chuck noted the margin should increase due to the California thing. I used the exit polling results to estimate it at an 8 percentage point edge for Democrats. The exit poll results will change some as they calibrate them to actual results. But that shouldn't be too far off.

Anyway, if Trump and his fans don't think what just happened is a significant statement they are kidding themselves. In terms of overall public sentiment it was every big as big a Statement as Obama got in 2010. Actually, I think that when the final vote counts come out it'll be a bigger statement.

BTW it's virtually certain that the Democrats got substantially more total votes in the Senate races as well. We're not going to have the totally horrible situation whereby the Republicans control the Presidency and both Houses of Congress in spite of the United States People voting for the other Party in the most recent Presidential, House, and Senate Elections. But we still have a situation in which the balance of power between the two major Parties is out of sync with overall public sentiment. The public, overall, clearly prefers the Democratic Party. If the public overall had its way the Republicans wouldn't control anything.

C r u z won the 2012 Texas Senate race by 16 percentage points. He won this one by 2.6 percentage points. It would've been great for Democrats if the Democrat would've won this time. But what happened is consistent with Texas continuing it's long, slow evolution towards being in the Democrat column as its demographics change.

Why?

I know it is hard for you in your fragile mental state, but try to see the forest here

The House is going to be completely ineffective without Dem control of the Senate. All the House is going to do is issue subpoenas to the WH, which will be blocked outright or ignored on grounds of exec privilege.

And it isn't the point. The young guns of the Dem party can't stand her, and he also knows they hate his guts. Trump doesn't care who the Speaker is, he's just trying to create turmoil

The young guns will like her by the time this is over because she's way too much for Trump. Overall Trump is just digging a deeper hole for himself right now. He just got unequivocally repudiated and he's in denial about it. He has no ability to assess defeats to determine what he did wrong and correct his mistakes.

So no blue wave, conks pick up a RINO-proof Senate (so means no impeachment for leftists), donks take the House by flipping one of the least amount of turnovers in a first term President midterm election since Reagan in '82.

Other interesting tidbits:
Veritas batted 1.000 in their undercover investigations. All candidates they targeted lost.

Obomba batted 0.000 as all the candidates he campaigned for lost.

Time to start talking about 2020.

Then they will need to explain why their network was so vulnerable to a security breach.

Pretty solid commentary by Mark Bauerlein on CNN. Make no mistake, I agree with JSO that we are probably in the last throes of conservatism in this country. It's only a matter of time before the socialists (er, I mean progressives) take over and annihilate the economy, tax the shit out of everyone, and disincentivize individual achievement. But anyway, the point of the read is, conservatives are fighting for their very existence at the moment. I'm glad I got to live 50 years in Free America.
Democrats should not be surprised to find that they just guaranteed six more years of President Trump.

At 9:30 p.m., Fox News called the House for the Democrats. Though Republicans will hold the Senate, any defeat is a serious wound for conservatism. Expect many leading House Democrats to spend more time now on eradicating the opposition through investigations, hearings, and impeachment than on crafting traditional liberal legislation. Democrats have raised health care and the poor during the campaign, but those traditional issues have been drowned out by allegations of the evils of their opponents.

The results trickled in during an anxious day and -- with so many races too close to call -- a breathless night. Why so tense?

Because, in 2018 America, only in politics is the battle of left vs. right unresolved. The big institutions are solidly lined up against believers in traditional sex roles, family values, God, and country. Hollywood doesn't like them, nor do Silicon Valley, academia, public schools, the art world, most newsrooms, big funders like the Ford Foundation and the Koch brothers, and corporate America, whose human resources tell social conservatives that their beliefs are backward and discriminatory. The Democratic Party got rid of pro-lifers years ago, and even most church leaders have made their peace with secular culture and leaned liberal.

That means the ballot box is the sole place where conservatives can fight and win. Every election, in that case, is existential. If conservatives lose, progressives have the chance to stamp out conservatism forever. If conservatives win ... well, they survive until the next election. Those were the stakes tonight. Elections are no longer who's-up-and-who's-down. They are: does-conservatism-live-or-die.

The Senate is still Republican, and every attempt the Dems make to discredit Trump won't pass the upper chamber. They will, instead, arouse conservatives of all kinds, who understand the annihilating intent of liberalism better than the Democrats and commentators think.

Right. So many chips on shoulders out there, waiting for retribution. At least you have a somewhat recent beef. Some people are reaching back 150+ years for when somebody in their bloodline was repressed.
