Liberals are picking up seats, the House and quite a few governorships will be flipped, a check against Trump has been formed, and there might still be a surprise in Texas and other places. Yes Florida disappointed, but at least they passed the measure to give back the voting rights to felons (minus murder/sexual convictions).
The Senate was never going to be won, but the extra losses do make 2020 tougher. Overall though, tonight is a good start in righting the ship towards the progressive path America has always followed (and yes, progressives are doing much better than moderate Democrats tonight).

Now, how to pay for those...liberal Vermont tried and found it could not afford the single payer...and California has put that on the back burner because of costs...
This progressive move will stall as the costs become clear...

Honestly, I'm mostly happy that Barbara Comstock is finally gone from Virginia's 10th district, and that NoVA is now wholly blue. Add that with the flips in Virginia's 2nd and 7th districts, along with the huge gains Democrats made last year during state elections...and I really like the progress Virginia is making.

Vermont should have legalized weed then pushed for single payer.

Looks like a blood bath at the state/local level in Colorado,
The state will be entirely blue if this keeps up.
One thing national networks aren't focusing on (understandably) is how much Democrats are picking up at the non-federal level all over the nation.

If that's what she thought was the right thing to do, then yes. I'm suspect she knew it would hurt her election chances. I've always maintained that a politician should not do whatever they do because that's what they think will benefit them in the next election. They should do what they do because they think it's the best thing to do. Then let the chips fall where they may. I don't think they should be gauging public sentiment and adjusting what they do accordingly. They should be saying, "This is what I believe in. This is the right approach. Vote for me if you want to."Pwns wrote:McCaskill loses by 10 points. Was it worth voting against Kavanaugh?
That's leadership. Gauging public sentiment then acting to try to pander to it is not.

Well, whatever it is it looks like they'll have enough of a majority so they won't lose it if somebody dies or something like that. The corrupt S.O.B. in the White House won't have corrupt S.O.B.s in the Republican House Leadership to run interference for him and cover up for him anymore.93henfan wrote:Welp, Jake Tapper just proclaimed on CNN, "This is not a blue wave."
This is a win for the Democrats. We all know it was a referendum on Trump and it was a "thumbs down" on him. He'll try to spin it differently. But that's what it was.

Re: Blue Wave 2018
Plenty of ominous signs for the future for the Republican Party in the House Elections exit polling results, BTW. The precise numbers will change some as the exit polling people calibrate. But the basic picture won't change.
The only race/sex group that voted majority Republican is White Males. They voted for Republicans by an estimated 59% to 39%. Congratulations.
The problem is that White Females voted Democrat by an estimated 50% to 48%. That's close enough so that it might not quite be clear that a majority did indeed vote Democrat. But the large sample size involved, 18,316, means probably so.
Progress among non Whites? Well, Blacks voted Democrat by an estimated 90% to 9%. Hispanics voted Democrat by an estimated 68% to 30%. Asians voted Democrat by an estimated 77% to 23%. Non Whites overall voted Democrat by an estimated 76% to 22%.
Here's a big one: I'm not going to do the math right now for the exact number because they've got Whites broken into 8 age groups. But the six White age groups in the 18 through 44 year old range all are estimated to have voted majority Democrat. Only the 45 through 64 and 66 and older age groups are estimated to have voted majority Republican among Whites. Guess which groups are going to tend to die first?
College Educated White women voted Democrat by an estimated 60% to 38%. Independents voted for Democrats over Republicans by an estimated 54% to 42%.
I could go on. But I think you can see that all indications are that it's just a matter of time.
