A mail bomb with a timer on it? Why? And not only that, but a timer on the inside? Someone wanted this thing to look scary instead of just being a single, contained cylinder.

I thought the same thing - little would inflame the masses on the left more than framing the right by sending dud bombs to prominent lefties.

I wouldn't rule it out either but it'd be pretty stupid because they know the FBI is going to figure it out and catch them then if it's false flag... Well, you get the point.

At this point I don't see how anybody can think they can do something like this and not get caught. When was the last time we had a bomb attack and the FBI didn't figure it out? I'm drawing a blank. Don't remember it ever happening.

Plus, none of these devices have gone off and now it is beginning to look like they were not meant to. But crucial details are surely not public yet because the FBI wants to rule out the nuts who call in, claiming responsibility.

I was too young for the Unibomber, but wasn't his stuff kind of sophisticated? Granted, he also evaded the law for longer than a decade, so he may have been an exception. I wouldn't be surprised if they catch this person inside of a week - it doesn't sound as if they covered their tracks very well at all.

Some of these devices had inoperable components - put there to make the devices look more "bomb-like" but nonfunctional

Actual mail bombers, over history, actually have been quite clever, and they have killed people. This one seems to want to scare people, knows how to mail stuff, and knows what a scary bomb should look like - in other words, not an actual mail bomber

If this person really is trying to kill people then he is the worst mail bomber ever
