Nah, the FBI isn't going to find anything at this point. I think they do a cursory FBI review, use that as a way to say they investigated (other than the Senate investigation that already happened) and Kavanaugh is voted in late next week. There's nothing pressing on the SCOTUS docket next week anyway, no rush to get him in so that he can lodge his opinion.

There needs to be some clarity and civility that crops back into this process, and I think it would at least be an olive branch that the GOP can give to say that they took a step to do that by having the FBI re-do the background check. Whether the Dems take it or not is another thing, but it would at least be better than the circus that was yesterday.

The Dems aren't really interested in a FBI investigation lets be honest about that. They're interested in the long game & stalling & believeing the longer they can string things out the more they can assail Kavanaugh. it would be a shocker if the FBI investigation came up with any new info. But the Democrats next play would be to ask for testimony from the same people the FBI investigate, ask for testimony from the other accusers of Kavanaugh, to ask for Judge's testimony, to ask for time to review whatever they can either dig up or manufacture while the FBI investigates. Flake is playing right into their hand.

It's a chance for them to accept an olive branch and go that way. Obviously, it's a question if they'll do that. Scheduling a vote to confirm next Friday or Saturday, pending the completion of an FBI investigation in the next few days should be fine.

Btw, in the Toobin book I'm reading about the Supreme Court (book was written 10 years ago but it sounds almost identical to now) he references back to when Souter was nominated. Apparently the Dems then still had the same tact - NOW passed around pamphlets at the confirmation hearing of "Confirming Souter and millions of women will die". I'm sure Souter was the face of evil as well. Still, gotta give them a chance to back down from that nihilism.

The ABA has lost thousands of members due to its leftist political stances, starting with a controversial abortion plank in 1992.

The ABA has become a means for its leadership to advance their political interests. It really does not set academic standards any more. There are far too many law schools today with ABA approval. We need fewer law schools and they must have higher standards. Any college graduate, no matter what his or her undergraduate record, can be admitted to some law school in the United States.

Further, ABA leadership seems to have no idea how to respond those changes in the legal profession that have resulted from the 2007-2008 economic meltdown, or to the coming changes that will result from the use of AI programs to resolve many legal issues. American law schools keep minting JDs at a rate that far exceeds demand.

Im my judgment, the ABA does very little to promote the standards of the practice of law in the United States or high academic standards. It has no vision of how to adapt legal education to the 21st Century market realities or how to address technological advances that will change the practice of law in the future . It continues to do business as usual, oblivious to change.

I don't need the ABA to tell me that Brett Kavanaugh is "highly qualified" for the Supreme Court. But the ABA did play an important role in vetting judicial nominees for the District Court, except it stopped doing that competently many years ago too.

Many years ago, I left the ABA because it was doing nothing that mattered to me or really improved the practice of law in the US.

I resigned from the ABA today after 36 years. I was on hold a long time, so I probably wasn’t first in line.
