Dartmouth has hired Callie Brownson as offensive quality control coach, making Coach Brownson the first woman to be a full-time coach at the D-I level.
SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

I think it's a position for when you you're already at your assistant coaches limit but have someone who knows their shit, is willing to volunteer or earn camp money, and does not qualify as a grad assistant.
This woman played in a womens' football league but it calls to mind my belief that it should be possible to coach football effectively without ever having played football. Coaching is strictly an intellectual exercise. It should be possible for someone who never played football by virtue of not having the athletic ability to do so to nevertheless coach it by learning the principles of the game and effectively directing people who DO have the athletic ability.
I don't think it's any more necessary to have played football to be a football coach than it is to have been a chess piece in order to play chess.

Hope she does well. A women's perspective in play calling philosophy might be different.
Seriously, no one is going to say it? Are you sure that is a woman?

That may be the stupidest analogy anyone on this board has ever used. I’m a lesser person for having read it. May God have mercy on your soul.

I don't think it's stupid at all. When someone plays chess they know the "capability" of each piece. You can take it from there. The point is that there is absolutely no reason to think someone has to have been a football player in order to understand the game then address tactics and strategy. They don't need to have been a player to assess players' capabilities either.
