But Trump is somehow doing what almost every candidate wouldn't dare to do. And that is the dirty work of fixing America's economic competitiveness. I'll take those actions, even if it means coming with a side of the carnival clown antics of Trump, every time. THE ECONOMY, JSO, THE ECONOMY. Keep your eye on the ball and stop watching the people in the stands.
Dude, he's not fixing anything. Our economic competitiveness isn't any better now than it was before he took office and there's a good chance he's about to really screw things up now that he's gotten around to his protectionist crap. The economy was good before he took office. There hasn't been any great American turnaround.

What he's doing with respect to people like you is the same thing he did when he brought a bunch of investors out to convince them that one of his projects was making progress. He told construction guys to move dirt around and look busy so he could fool the investors. The idea that America was "not Great" and now he's made it "Great again" is sheer nonsense.

We'd be in pretty much the same place with respect to the economy now with Hillary as President. Only thing is we probably wouldn't have to worry about her really screwing things up with protectionist nonsense like we have to worry about him doing that.
Get your head out of the sand. The corporate tax rate was lowered. Does that not make us competitive?

lol.

If someone just emailed the NY Times saying, "I'm a senior level White House official - print this, plz"... and they actually printed it... they should be shut down.

They were communicating with this person before it was published, and they've been in touch since. The White House knows it's real. :thumb:

We were competitive before it was lowered. Look, the bottom line is that the economy is about the same now in terms of the direction it's going as it's been since mid 2009. I think the single best way to gauge that is to look at real GDP. Below is a graph of real GDP starting with the first quarter of 1947 and ending with the second quarter of 2018.

I'll state again what the test is: You pretend that you don't know who was in power when and ask yourself, honestly, where you would see points where it looks like some big change in direction occurred. And there is no WAY you'd be honest and look at the graph below and say it looks like something big occurred around when Trump got elected or took office.

The "something happened" times are pretty much identified by the grey vertical bars. And you can see that the last time "something happened" was around 2010. The idea that there was some substantial change in things associated with Trump is just not reality

In case you missed it, 8 more Trump-appointed Federal judges were approved by the Senate today... a record pace for approvals...

201,000 more jobs added in August. Unemployment 3.9%. Black unemployment lowest ever. Post-recession wages highest ever.

Thank you, President Obama! Amirite JSO?

We don't necessarily have to thank anybody. But jobs were being added at about that rate for years before Trump took office. Sometimes a little lower. Sometimes a little higher. I just did a quick Google search and found this article from June, 2015:

https://strategicsearch.com/technical-r ... ing-audit/

It's about 280,000 jobs being created in May, 2015 and includes this Statement:
This was the 14th out of the last 15 months that the economy added 200,000 or more net new jobs!
In other words: 201,000 jobs created during a month is not something that has been unusual in recent history. And do we really need to go over the unemployment rates again? Do I need to post the graphs showing how unemployment, overall or among Blacks, had declined from way up there back around 2010 to close to what it is now BEFORE the 2016 election and how no intellectually honest person would suggest that there's any association between Trump taking office and any change in the progress of things?

This is the thing: Yes, the economy is pretty good right now. But it was pretty good and getting better before Trump got elected. There wasn't any "turnaround." There isn't any real scenario in which the economy was doing poorly then Donald Trump saved the day.

Ok goody. I was able to find a good graph to illustrate. Below is an image from https://tradingeconomics.com/united-sta ... m-payrolls. It refers to the 201,000 "jobs created" in August 2018 with the statement, "Non farm payrolls in the United States increased by 201 thousand in August of 2018." That's part of the graph. Look at it. It shows monthly job creation at generally the same level since around 2010. Yes, there is some up and down variation. But generally the same level. It's another example of this thing where Trump and his cultists crow about some big change in the way things were already going that doesn't exist. Another example of a situation in which if you just look at the graph of some measure and ask yourself if it looks like something significant happened to change the way things were going around the end of 2016 you'd have to say "no."

What the heck since that unemployment rate was mentioned again as though we should think that's because of Trump I'll post a graph from the Bureau of Labor Statistics site on Black unemployment. Again: Look at it. No intellectually honest person would say it looks like something changed with respect to the trend when Trump was elected or took office. This kind of stuff is nonsense. When are you guys going to stop doing it?

Image

It's fair to say Trump has not screwed things up. But this stuff of acting like the economy was "bad" then Trump got elected and all of a sudden there was this massive change to "good" is just absolute nonsense.

The U.S. economy grew at an annual rate of 1.6% in 2016, the Commerce Department reported Friday.

In the last three months of the year -- between October and December -- the economy grew at an annual rate of 1.9%. It's the slowest pace of growth since 2011.

It reflects how slow the recovery has been for many Americans since the Great Recession, which ended in 2009.

Weak economic growth was a key reason behind President Trump's election.
