I’m two blocks from Capitol Hill. I saw a picture of a woman protestor in the confirmation hearing chamber in a pink robe (Code Pink) on CNN.com who looks just like one of my coworkers. I checked our office calendar and she is on leave today.

My entire office, save for just a handful of us, has full blown TDS.

Why do Republicans even have these hearings? It's such a dog-and-pony show.

Grassley: “It’s preposterous how many on the other side of the aisle have seemed to have already judged Mr. Kavanaugh before he’s had a chance to speak.”
Grassley (minutes later): "Justice Kavanaugh will be an exceptional justice."
And then Orinn Hatch: "We are going to confirm you."

All this after holding up a SCOTUS nomination for one year - without as much of a hearing - and then can't wait a month to read and release documents. For someone who's to have a LIFETIME appointment.

At least Republicans used to pretend to care about America, but they've now hitched their wagon to the devil and it will end really badly for them. Deservedly so.

At this point it should be gloves off against everything the GOP idoes. Make their lives uncomfortable, harass them at private places, protest everything they do, make sure their children know how hated their parents are. We have entire generations of progressive people that are being held hostage by regressive idiots and it's going to get very ugly before it gets better.

I want 89 to feel scared in America...because that America will be an unquestionably better one than the version where economic and power structures skew towards people like him.

Politics - it's a dog and pony show regardless which party is in power. The Dems were the ones who famously started the tradition of not having the nominated judges saying anything about how they would specifically rule on potential upcoming cases. Both sides are complicit in this, including people you support.

As for Merrick Garland, he never had the votes. The GOP controlled the Senate, and they were never going to approve him. Whether he ever got a hearing or not is a minor detail - the end result was the same. The President can't just appoint anyone and expect the Senate to automatically say yes, especially when the opposing party holds the majority in the Senate. The Constitution is pretty good reading, you should look it up.

Laugh now, but I'm serious when I tell you that the America you'll pass away in will be unrecognizable to the America which existed when you first opened your eyes. I'm a minuscule slice of 2+ generations that have a completely different vision for this nation, and at some point we're going to wield a lot of power.

America has always been a progressive nation with progressive values and it always finds a way to plow through people who hold it back. People like yourself, and the entirety of this generation's GOP, are always (without fail) on the wrong side of this great nation's history.

It’s pretty entertaining to see how certain sides act when they’re out of power. I think I’m on cycle four of political shifts in my adult life. Trip is only on one (or two if he was an adult prior to the Tea Party year of 2010).

Younger folks can be so melodramatic during their first rodeo; even more so when they’re liberal it seems.

Hey, Einstein: There's a great big country out there where literally less than 15% of the people think like you do. Including those of your generation. You should get out of that DC bubble you live in and go experience it before you start speaking for entire generations of people. :dunce: :dunce:

93- I'm more progressive than I've ever been. I used to support some GOP members but as I've grown older, I've seen how fucked up the party has become (or maybe always was).

And there's a lot of false equivalencies between the parties, but the voting records are not equivalent at all. I'm not saying either side is clean, but ultimately the GOP is chasing a one-time payout while the DNC is trying to set up long-term health.

If you compare America, its population, and its resources to a fruit tree, the DNC wants to water it, feed it fertilize it, brace it, etc. Hopefully it grows and continues to bear fruit for years. Some years will be better than others, but Americans we'll never live long enough to meet will enjoy the fruit.

The GOP just wants to harvest the fruit and chop the tree down to burn for firewood, even though that means there'll be nothing tomorrow. But they don't give one crap about tomorrow because they won't be here when people start starving. They'll gorge themselves on the fruit for one night and tomorrow's problems are for whoever comes later. And they'll make sure their kids got plenty of fruit while it lasts.

Well, we’ll just have to disagree. Democrats, when back in power, will stifle the country through regulation and taxation, as they’ve always done. And of course, there is no moral high ground on either side (see LBJ and Vietnam, the Clintons and their lack of honesty in anything, etc).

Good God you've fully drunk the beltway koolaid. If you believe ANY of that crap you've just spewed you are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

Newsflash, kid: NEITHER party gives two shit about you. Neither one. They just sell their message differently. To honestly believe ANYBODY in the DNC wants to "water" anything is just fantasyland. Their sole objective is to grasp power and stay in power and grow government and government control. Just like the RNC. Same shit--different message.

I don't care if they give a crap about me; I care about how they vote.

One consistently votes for progress. The other consistently votes for regress.

If the GOP would run on social progress in a fiscally conservative way (which they used to), they'd probably have my vote. If they showed an ounce of compassion, they might have my vote. But I'm not going to value money over people's lives and rights. And now that the GOP has demonstrated they'll latch on to anything to stay in power, I've completely lost respect for them.

I disagree with JSO about many things, but at least he stands for something. And he's not wrong on one item - you can tell me to leave my bubble as much as you want - but all the facts and polls and statistics (and recent voting results) back up him up: demographics are not the GOP's friend.

You got it half right....BOTH parties will latch onto anything to stay/get into power...it's why the DNC has gone full retard with the socialist crap. They think THAT's the answer to regaining (and keeping) power---and it's going to fail miserably, by the way. And YOUR version of "regress" is another man's version of progress. Tomayto, tomahto.....

You want a one party dictatorship. How is that progressive? Wouldn’t that be closer to regressive?

There are any number of "progressive" cities that are the blueprint for the future you envision: Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis, New Orleans, Baltimore, Cleveland, San Francisco...the list goes on and on. All cities that have been democratic strongholds for years and cities where the streets are littered with bodies, hypodermic needles, human feces, boarded up and burned out stores, and slums...mile after mile of slums.

yeah, they're real pictures of success. THAT'S the America I feel scared in.
