positional ratings

Post by SmallCollegeFBFan »

I have almost completed (just tweaking now) my FCS positional ratings and my top 50 overall players in the division. Should I post when I finish or do you guys think too many people will take these things seriously and get pissed at me?

Go for it. I'd love to see what you've got. You seem like a pretty unbiased guy.

Give me a few days and I will put it out there. There are some picks here that I don't think will hold up but I believe in preseason ratings of players based on what we know now, with a few projections but overall reward those players who have shown it on the field already. I will update my rankings in the postseason and put the top 15-20 per position. I will probably not post on AGS because of a couple people who will rake me over the coals no matter what these say.

Some people will disagree but at that point it's time for them to defend their opinion. You have went to the trouble of thinking it through to rank them as you see it so you already have a defense of your opinion. You know what might be cool, and I'm just spit ballin' here.

See if anyone can make a valid argument that will change your mind based on your criteria for the rankings. It would be great discussion and you never know if you may have missed something about a player that would be important in your view. You can sit in judgement of the homer effect that most of us have concerning out player's.

**** people who get pissed and take things too seriously. I would have Devlin in the top 10 overall to avoid all the Blue Hen Nation coming down on you though.

Just to clarify, anyone who puts out an FCS preview in the newsstands will get promoted by me. You saw me post the top 25, All-America, orders of finish for the other mags. I just didn't have anyone with inside information on the others like I do with Steele. :)

Here are the top 10 RBs and I will post the expanded rankings later on this week. As you can see there are definite Payton Candidates ahead of him and I am not sure if I could even justify putting Ball in the top 6 or 7 right now. I will do a postseason list and rank the top 20.

RB Rankings
1. Trevyn Smith, Weber State, Sr.
2. William Ford, South Carolina State, Sr.
3. Toddrick Pendland, McNeese State, Sr.
4. David Sinisi, Monmouth, Sr.
5. David McCarty, Albany, Sr.
6. Chase Reynolds, Montana, Jr.
7. Chris Evans, Samford, Jr.
8. Tony Nelson, UMASS, Sr.
9. Aaron Ball, Villanova, Jr.
10. Jordan Culbreath, Princeton, Sr.

As I have always done with transfers I rank them but I rank them lower than the hype due to all the things people forget with transfers.

Remember when I was telling everyone last year that JSU and RP would not have the big time year that fans thought? I know how tough it is for a transfer QB to come in early on and show big things.

RP had a buzz because of his performance in a big game at LSU and I know Devlin is getting the same buzz because of that. I really believe Devlin will struggle at times without having proven weapons at this point but has the talent to end the season as one of the top QBs and a potential Payton candidate heading into next year. He is not in my top 10 QBs but is in my top 15 because of those potential growing pains.

The postseason lists are the only ones that matter anyway and if he deserves it I will definitely put him there. I have no conspiracy theory on transfers but I do know that they take time to get the system down and gel with teammates. I have rated the top 31 QBs but here is a look at the top 15 so you can see some of what I have. As I said before, I will post full lists later in the week.

QUARTERBACKS
1. Armanti Edwards, Appalachian State, Sr.
2. Cameron Higgins, Weber State, Jr.
3. Dominic Randolph, Holy Cross, Sr.
4. Bryant Lee, Southern, Sr.
5. R.J. Toman, New Hampshire, Jr.
6. Matt Nichols, Eastern Washington, Sr.
7. Scott Riddle, Elon, Jr.
8. Curtis Pulley, Florida A&M, Sr.
9. Sebastian Trujillo, San Diego, Sr.
10. Derrick Fourroux, McNeese State, Sr.
11. Eric Ward, Richmond, Sr.
12. Pat Devlin, Delaware, Jr.
13. Ryan Perrilloux, Jacksonville State, Sr.
14. Pat Grace, Northern Iowa, Sr.
15. Jeremy Moses, Stephen F. Austin, Jr.

For the record, I think Devlin is a better prospect and player than Ward but I have to give Ward his worthy preseason mention because of last year so I put him 2nd team All-CAA and have Devlin as #3 right now. Ward is a solid player and could be an athlete at the next level, but needs to get faster. As of now I have him as a marginal free agent.

 yeah i know, I'm just messin with ya. Bring anything you want to the table, we love FCS stuff over here. I can understand your ranking of Ball, a top ten preseason as a junior I will take. I expect big things from him this year.

Whitney doesn't get any love. Needs to work on his passing game before he does I suppose

Whitney is on my list but a bit further down because of the fact that he could get hurt or struggle and Talley would likely put Young back in. You could really put either one of them on the list and don't be shocked if Young's NFL stock sky rockets if he is put back in. He has the arm, athletic ability, etc. to get strong looks but has to get on the field first!

Yeah, Black (Antwon) has all the capabilities to be the top, and I mean the TOP quaterback in FCS, but had some release issues last year. Unfortunately it cost him his job. Great kid, love him to death, but he needs to shrink his ego some. Has had that problem since he was a frosh. Whit, on the other hand, is nothing but poise, but doesn't have nearly as good an arm as Twon. Also, I've seen his ego spike a bit in the last year, so I hope that helps more than hurts. I wouldn't be shocked if we saw a lot of both of them this year. Twon wouldn't have come back for his 5th if he wasn't going to see the field. I chalk last year up to his knee injury, seemed to not be as confident on that leg.

Yeah Nova could have the best 1-2 punch at QB in the nation. They are the only team who has 2 QBs in my top 30. :)

You'll need to dig deep...don't overlook that there are Div 1 transfers that aren't on the spring rosters in some of the Big Sky teams.

I have Roper on the list. He is the only one at this point though.

#19. I have the EWU RB #30 because I feel he is a sleeper to have a big year.

If Henderson can regain pre-injury form, he has top 10 potential, IMHO

Yeah I thought so too. I would have put him 30 but upgraded because I felt his talent before the injury warrants a top 20 rating at this point.
