You got that shit right, Homeskillet.

"Persecution for the expression of opinions seems to me perfectly logical. If you have no doubt of your premises or your power, and want a certain result with all your heart, you naturally express your wishes in law, and sweep away all opposition. To allow opposition by speech seems to indicate that you think the speech impotent, as when a man says that he has squared the circle, or that you do not care wholeheartedly for the result, or that you doubt either your power or your premises."

I don't agree with all that Trip says and some of it is radical. Then again the founding of this nation was somewhat radical as well. When you guys over-react to Trip, you ridicule the market place of ideas.

Why do you hate America?

No need to pay Congressmen; if they give a shit about the Country, they shouldn't get paid anyways.

Reverse Citizens United.

Build a small arena with dorm style apts near it and give them a food and travel allowance (it doesn't need to be in DC...there's no reason every gov't institution should be in DC anyways). Build a regular office building for their daily work and staff. Nothing luxurious, except maybe public areas.

Communication in the arena can be done through combinations of live chats, private messages, message boards, emails, etc. God forbid Congressmen have to read and type, and they can still make calls as needed to each other or speak on the floor. Has anyone watched a session of Congress? Half of the time wasted in is procedural garbage that's completely outdated in today's world anyways.

Live votes can be done through a similar system. Make everything publicly available in real-time.

Would you really trust that the concern of the people the Representative represents will be taken into account if he/she/whatever is not being compensated?

It really doesn't. From some Google searches, combined costs for Congress salaries + benefits + allowances + pension is around 2 billion/year, much it for pensions.

Give them 70K/yr with benefits and allowances. That'll probably put you around 1.5 billion, even with 10,000 members. Completely take out the pension program...you should only get paid for your service.

They currently make around $175K/yr without all the additional stuff. And their pension is 80% ($140K/yr). That's insanity for a position to serve your fellow citizens. And there's a ton of past Congressmen.

A full pension is available to Members of Congress who are:
*62 years of age with five years of service;
*50 years or older with 20 years of service; or
*25 years of service at any age.

The current Congress has to vote for this, you of course realize. They won't even consider term limits, let alone this insanity. Get term limits first, is what you should be working forward on.

Are you willing to do away with constituency services back home?

That staff is going to have to work for the country for free and pay their mortgages with rainbows and butterfly kisses.

There are over 25k people, not including the 535, who work for Congress. On the low end, the budget for a congressional office (to include it's staffs salary) is about $1.3M.

Think about that for over 10,000 people.

Ah that's right - they should work for free. Rainbows and butterfly kisses.

How many staffers are required when one rep would represents ~30,000 people instead of ~700,000?

This makes it a lot easier and streamlined for reps to directly engage constituents.
