One thing I’ve learned from discussions like these and with my own family is that some people just aren’t willing to embrace the unfamiliar. My father is hilarious in this regard. He ONLY likes places with the aforementioned non-coniferous deciduous forest.

I find extreme beauty in places like Utah and New Mexico. He will non-stop bitch about them from the moment he gets off until the moment he gets back on the plane. A place without leafy forests is worthless to him.

That shit is all relative. Two years ago I took my sons to the top of Mt Washington, NH. It was calm and 80 degrees at the bottom. It was 40 with 60mph winds at the top. We all bought knit caps at the gift shop. In August.

I’ve been there several times (it was the closest thing to Twentynine Palms that wasn’t a methhead town). It never had any appeal whatsoever. It was kind of like Beverly Hills-lite, but in a desert and really hot.
