Metal detectors are about $3-5000 each, hand held wands about $150. Fair price for the safety of your child in school.
Armed check point security and metal detector/wand operators $60-1000 grand a year per school. That’s a large expense for smaller or low income districts where levies fail. Not saying it isn’t worth it but does have a price beyond $5150.

I'm assuming the school already has a security staff. If you need to hire a staff, that is additional. It's worth it until something changes, and people stop bringing guns or knives into school. Schools find ways to afford sports, why not protection.

Please see previous post. 1 less admin could equal a couple extra people on security, if the school does not have any security at this time.

I don't understand what a metal detector will do to stop someone fully loaded and looking to shoot many people.
The wacko always has the first shot. And if there is someone guarding the metal detector, he's the first target.
The armed guard should always be on the move and never in a predictable location.

We are trying to stop a mentally unstable person here, not the NYC SWAT team. See what's working at other places and improve on that. Just having a metal detector is not going to stop anyone. I thought you guys would be able to assume what comes with a metal detector without me having to go thru the exact specifics of security that comes with a metal detector. :grenade:

It was the price tag you initially put on it.

Hell, here's something with very little price tag long term price tag.
Allow retired law enforcement and military who are on school staff to carry.
Allow teachers who volunteer to go through a stepped up CCW program to carry..
Police chief for the largest township in my county is on board for something similar.
http://www.delcotimes.com/general-news/ ... in-schools

Didn't one of the Parkland teachers who was killed, think it was the football assistant coach, have a CCW permit?Of course he wasn't allowed to carry at school.

Anecdotal- My brother told me the high school he teaches at in CT have 2 retired LEOs on staff, one from the local PD and one from the Dept of Corrections. Of course neither are allowed to carry on campus...

You are on a dipshit roll today, Junior.

I have said, always and continuously that you cannot have EFFECTIVE gun control regulations without running afoul of the 2nd Amendment.... i.e.: denying a right without due process of law.

Waiting periods are already in effect in MANY places. And I have never argued against them. In fact, I am strongly for them. Background checks are not instantaneous and sellers need time for verification. Just as with investigative detentions. I'll let you look up the case law since you've lost your Googles today.

And at the end of the day this is all just a straw man unless you can tell me how waiting periods would have stopped any of our famous mass shootings.

So if you want to stop school shootings, repeal the 2nd Amendment, or STFU.
What about the NCIS system that most states use? Usually takes a # of minutes. I thought the problem with it isn't the time but the fact that states & the fed don't do a great job of submitting records & adding more time so its not relatively instantaneous isn't going to fix that.

CNN is rich.

They have a 2-inch tall headline “WALKOUT” on their site at the moment, as if it’s significant.

Trust me, you could go to any state in the Union, and if there was any excuse for kids to walk home for the day and for their teachers to get out of teaching the rest of the day, they’re not passing up on that chance. Crappy school lunches, defunding of extracurriculars, a shooting. It doesn’t matter. Day off, bitches!

NCIS varies. I was approved in about two minutes for my last gun purchase in December. Other times I’ve waited close to two hours (usually on Saturday) and during the height of one of the Obama scares/run on guns, I was put on overnight hold, so that ended up being about a 16 hour wait.

It’s NCIC and it has to be entered by someone. Then if there’s a hit for an arrest, usually you have to reach out to the originating agency to decipher if there was a conviction, etc... because agencies enter their own arrest info, there’s all kinds of different nomenclature, and sometimes agencies don’t even enter disposition data. NCIC is a mess in that regard. It has all the info, but it takes an FBI certified operator to use it and then there will almost always be a follow up by phone call with the originating agency

Any teacher that lets kids walk out of a classroom should be fired on the spot.

As long as the DOB is different you’re ok. Unless you have Barney Fife on the terminal think maybe one of the DOBs was entered wrong and it really might be you

You’re in for weeks or months of bureaucracy at that point

But the SCOTUS has already ruled on temporary suspension of your rights, so get your Jewish lawyer ready if your background check takes longer than a couple days

Anyone with a brain knows they did, just like they loaded the town hall with liberals when Dana Loesch spoke.

My experience with SROs is that (with exceptions) the job is sometimes reserved for officers not cut out for the street, depending on the agency

seeing how this guy retired immediately I'd say he was already RIP (retired in place)

Edit: they arent the only solution ... but try to get into a federal building with a gun - that's your solution. Multiple layers of security, of which armed guards are a part

and take them seriously instead of dumping the dead wood and cowards there

Media is adding fake gunshot sounds now? I mean, I knew they were total trash, but this is a new low.

Gun-grab propaganda and subliminals in full effect.. to traumatize the public more.. gunshot sounds added while talking about what happened.
In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.
