If politicians and political parties would get out of the business of setting political boundaries, I'm sure it would. I don't see Dems or GOP'ers eager to do so anytime soon so hopefully we find a way to keep them out of it.dbackjon wrote:Skjellyfetti wrote:PA Supreme Court redraws district map from:

Re: Miscellaneous news items that don't warrant their own thread
http://www.stltoday.com/missouri-gov-er ... ign=LEEDCCMissouri Gov. Eric Greitens was indicted and taken into custody Thursday on felony invasion of privacy, St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kimberly M. Gardner's office announced Thursday afternoon.
About 3:45 p.m., on the first floor of the Carnahan Courthouse in downtown St. Louis, a Post-Dispatch reporter saw Greitens being led down a hallway by several St. Louis city deputies.
Officials later confirmed Greitens was taken into custody and then booked at the St. Louis Justice Center.
Gardner's statement said a grand jury found probable cause to believe Greitens violated a Missouri statute that makes it a felony if a person transmits the image contained in the photograph or film in a manner that allows access to that image via a computer.
The indictment apparently stems from allegations made in media reports last month that, during the course of an extramarital affair, took a photograph of his bound and partially nude lover and threatened to publicize it if she exposed the affair.
Greitens has admitted the affair but has denied the alleged threat.
"As I have stated before, it is essential for residents of the city of St. Louis and our state to have confidence in their leaders," Gardner said in a written statement.

https://www.mercurynews.com/2018/02/25/ ... ction-bid/In a surprising show of discontent with one of California’s most enduring political leaders, the state Democratic Party declined to make an endorsement in this year’s U.S. Senate race on Sunday, snubbing Sen. Dianne Feinstein in her bid for a fifth full term.

Federal judge rules against challenge to Trump border wall
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018/02 ... -wall.htmlA federal judge on Tuesday ruled against an environmental challenge to President Trump’s border wall, delivering a win to the Trump administration in a decision that allows construction plans to move forward.
In a 101-page ruling, U.S. District Court Judge Gonzalo Curiel wrote that both Congress and the executive branch “share responsibilities in protecting the country from terrorists and contraband illegally entering at the borders.”

School Bans Students from Touching Snow
Well, I think teachers should be able to touch snow, just in case a student does.
Link
A head teacher has been labelled a “snowflake” for banning pupils from touching the snow.
Ges Smith, of the Jo Richardson Community School in Dagenham, east London, said that he had stopped his pupils from having snowball fights amid fears they would get hurt and he would face litigation claims.

The Supreme Court heard arguments in a free speech case from Minnesota on Wednesday...
So, in the Gopher State, government feels the need to closely control what a person wears into the polling place...never mind banning shirts supporting candidates on the ballot like are banned in other states...but they need to act as thought police to protect the weak...
http://dailysignal.com/2018/03/01/supre ... rts-polls/When was the last time a T-shirt or button influenced the way you voted?
Probably never—but the state of Minnesota thinks its citizens are much more impressionable, so it banned voters from wearing items that could be construed as “political” at polling places.
In addition to prohibiting express advocacy on behalf of a political candidate or ballot question, Minnesota’s law also bans “issue oriented material designed to influence or impact voting” and “material promoting a group with recognizable political views,” such as a “Don’t Tread on Me” T-shirt.

Any bets on how the Justices rule on this one???Daniel Rogan, assistant county attorney for Hennepin County, Minnesota, represented the state. When he stepped up to the podium, Justice Samuel Alito jumped in with a list of political symbols and messages, asking which would be allowed at the polls:
A rainbow flag? Rogan replied, “Yes, unless there was a gay rights issue on the ballot.”
Parkland Strong? “Yes.”
NRA? “No.”
The text of the Second Amendment? “No.”
The text of the First Amendment? “Yes.”
Colin Kaepernick? “Yes.”
All Lives Matter? “Maybe. It’s a close case.”

I don't understand how SCOTUS chooses cases to hear. Seems there are more important ones.

Yeah, the state didn't hold up well to the questioning from the bench. It's a noble idea in terms of keeping the election space clear of influence, but impossible to actually do without discriminating one way or the other.Col Hogan wrote:The Supreme Court heard arguments in a free speech case from Minnesota on Wednesday...

I knew about the law, but I usually don't see many people wearing shirts and buttons. It's usually lawn signs and bumper stickers, of which there were considerably less in 2016.GannonFan wrote:Yeah, the state didn't hold up well to the questioning from the bench.
