2R - Furman @ (7) Wofford

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

It's the second September rematch in a row for Furman. They did manage to edge a fading Elon in Elon last week, but Wofford's momentum is not so lacking. The Terriers' schedule is pretty absurd: 8 of their 11 games have been decided by one score, and they're 7-1 in those games (losing to Samford). In this otherwise even matchup, I see the final result being one Wofford fans have gotten used to.

Here's my assessment of the matchups & my pick for the game:

      • Quarterbacks -- Furman

        Running Backs - Wofford

        Receivers/TEs - Furman

        Offensive Line - Furman

        Defensive Line - Furman

        Linebackers --- Furman

        Secondary ---- Wofford

        Kicking ------ Wofford

        Punting ------ (push)

        Return Teams - (push)

        Kickoffs ------ Furman

        • Furman 24-27 Wofford

Wofford wins 28-10.

Two surprises here: It wasn't a one-score game, and Furman was actually favored in the point spread. :?

When was the last time NDSU faced the triple option?

WOW. That was 2012. I didn't think anyone in the MVFC runs it, but wasn't totally sure. I just figured NDSU probably faced someone since 2012 OOC or playoffs who ran the TO.

Wouldn't it have been GSU in the 2012 semis?

2012
Quarterfinals #1 NDSU 14, Wofford 7
Semis #1 NDSU 23, #5 GSU 20

Both Wofford & GSU were 3 loss teams that regular season.

Wofford scored their only TD on a Pick 6. GSU game was basically for the championship. Wofford stayed true to the option with only 7 passes. Grant Olson had 26 solo tackles for the Bison.
