Most hacking is social engineering. Phishing is hacking.

I mean, if we're using the definition that hacking is strictly limited to network hacking and accessing servers remotely... and an NCIS version of a kid in a hoodie tapping away at a computer with green 1s and 0s falling through the screen... then, yeah - the DNC may not have been "hacked"

So, you are saying that if you give me your password, and I log in and take your email, that is a hack?

Phishing is not considered hacking by most agencies...it is social engineering, and because it was Podesta, it's know as Whaling, not Phishing...

Yeah, and if you knew my cs.com password and it was the same as my email and you used it to login - it woul dbe a hack.

So Sony wasn't hacked?

Yahoo wasn't hacked?

The FBI certainly considers spear phishing hacking.

It's all criminal - the FBI calls it all hacking for the purposes of an indictment - but that isn't what they or any other Federal agency refer to as "hacking" when they train on it. We divide it into two distinct groups- hacking as a forcible entry, and social engineering as a soft entry

But I see you've devolved into nitpicking once again - a sure sign you can't dispute the overall thrust of what I was saying

Well, for one... it's more than "James Clapper and Co's" word.

Why would Trump appointees like Mike Pompeo, Mike Rogers, Dan Coats, and Co. also unanimously agree that Russia hacked the DNC? I look forward to Christopher Wray's next testimony... I'm sure he'll also agree, but... perhaps I'm wrong. If he disagreed... it would certainly send shockwaves and put a damper on this story.

Why do other Republicans like Richard Burr, Mike Conaway, Trey Gowdy, Roy Blunt, Tom Cotton, etc. on the intelligence committees also agree?

All part of the Deep State conspiracy theory? Is there a chance they have more information than Seth Rich conspiracy theorist Patrick Lawrence? :coffee:

Because most of them are working off of the assumption that Russia hacked the DNC, jelly

Nobody has presented actual evidence (yet) - and it isn't classified except for the FBI's and NCS's capabilities. And very few people have challenged them, so right now there's no onus to do so

I'm fine with it being a hack. I just haven't seen evidence of it, and neither have you

I'll let you look up the "everybody sez it" logical fallacy

"Antifa' violence in Berkeley spurs soul-searching within leftist activist community

If the dozens of organizations that turned out for Sunday’s mass protest against racism here, one group was impossible to miss.

Its members dressed head to toe in black, with masked faces and some bearing pastel-painted riot shields that read “no hate.” These 100 or so militants billed themselves as a security force for progressive counter-protesters, vowing to protect them from far-right agitators.

But as the protest got underway, some of those in masks would resort to mob violence, attacking a small showing of supporters of President Trump and others they accused, sometimes inaccurately, of being white supremacists or Nazis....

.....Militants who showed up Sunday were part of a multifaceted rally in which church leaders sang gospel and anti-fascists shouted profanities. Berkeley police estimated more than 4,000 people came out to take over a city park where far-right activists had called for an anti-Marxism rally. The organizer canceled the event Friday, citing security concerns, but a small number of far-right activists showed up anyway.

By the end of the day, 13 people had been arrested, one on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and three on battery charges.

Maybe the problem is they really think they're fighting Nazis and the KKK rather than misinformed wannabes with an imagined cause who go home to their kids at night?

I mean it might be tough to tell sometimes what with the swastikas, chanting, and confederate flags and such....

If you wave a Nazi flag all bets are off...
There can be no confusion about what exactly it means
I don't know how anyone can protect you at that point
you've basically just picked a fight with all of humanity

ISIS is a bunch of hacker slouches compared to The Third Reich
Taking allegiance to the Nazi flag is about a bold an attack on The World as there is

Hell
The Russians lost 20 million (white) people fighting those mother fuckers...

No doubt. My grandmother-in-law was in Leningrad for all 900 days of the siege. Unbelievable what they went through. We'd surrender after about a week. That may be generous.

The small group of protestors from the right in Berkley that the Antifa just attacked weren't waving the Nazi flag.

-The old Soviet flag is just as evil as the Nazi flag. Stalin was in the same evil ballpark as Hitler, and is responsible for the deaths of 2-3 times as many millions. And yet I've seen lots of people on the left in my lifetime who have sported that flag in one form or another. I look at them both as equally evil.

Bottom line is people in this country have freedom of speech to wave the Swastika or Hammer & Sickle, whatever you, I, or anyone thinks about it. People don't have the right to attack others simply for the flags they are waving, and in the case of the Antifa, conservative speakers for daring to exercise their freedom of speech.

I'm waiting for these Antifa to attack people who are armed and then have a whole bunch of them get shot. When that can of worms is opened I'll be

We should have stopped lend lease in 1942 to the Soviets in early 1942, once the Germans were no longer a threat to take Moscow, stayed out of Europe until we defeated Japan, and let the Krauts and Soviets knock absolutely the snot out of each other, and waltzed right into Europe..
