Schwartz tells All Things Considered's Robert Siegel that he is speaking out now because he is extremely concerned about what Trump would be like as a president.

He says the portrait that he painted of Trump in The Art of the Deal is not accurate.

"I helped to paint Trump as a vastly more appealing human being than he actually is. And I have no pride about that. ... I did it for the money. It's certainly weighed on me over the years," Schwartz says. "Now, since he's ... in a position to potentially become president, it makes my decision back then look very different than it did at the time."

"One of the chief things I'm concerned about is the limits of his attention span, which are as severe as any person I think I've ever met," Schwartz says. "No matter what question I asked, he would become impatient with it pretty quickly, and literally, from the very first time I sat down to start interviewing him, after about 10 or 15 minutes, he said, 'You know, I don't really wanna talk about this stuff, I'm not interested in it, I mean it's over, it's the past, I'm done with it, what else have you got?' "

The idea of a president in an "incredibly complex and threatening world who can't pay attention is itself frightening," Schwartz says.

Add to that the fact that Trump is so easily provoked, that what Schwartz calls Trump's insecurity "makes him incredibly reactive whenever he feels threatened, which is very, very often."

U.S. nears $100 billion arms deal for Saudi Arabia: White House official

The United States is close to completing a series of arms deals for Saudi Arabia totaling more than $100 billion, a senior White House official said on Friday, a week ahead of President Donald Trump's planned visit to Riyadh.

The official, who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity, said the arms package could end up surpassing more than $300 billion over a decade to help Saudi Arabia boost its defensive capabilities while still maintaining U.S. ally Israel's qualitative military edge over its neighbors.

"We are in the final stages of a series of deals," the official said. The package is being developed to coincide with Trump's visit to Saudi Arabia. Trump leaves for the kingdom on May 19, the first stop on his maiden international trip.

Reuters reported last week that Washington was pushing through contracts for tens of billions of dollars in arms sales to Saudi Arabia, some new, others already in the pipeline, ahead of Trump's visit.

The United States has been the main supplier for most Saudi military needs, from F-15 fighter jets to command and control systems worth tens of billions of dollars in recent years. Trump has vowed to stimulate the U.S. economy by boosting manufacturing jobs.

The package includes American arms and maintenance, ships, air missile defense and maritime security, the official said. "We'll see a very substantial commitment ... In many ways it is intended to build capabilities for the threats they face."

King of the Cucks
President Trump, whose dark, guttural demonization of Muslims was a trademark of his nationalist campaign, arrives here Saturday hoping the Arab world will listen to a new message.

Embarking on his first overseas trip as president, Trump plans to do a rhetorical pirouette with a speech Sunday in the birthplace of Islam preaching religious tolerance and inviting Muslims to join the United States in the fight against global terrorism.

Never mind that as a candidate Trump proposed banning Muslims from entering the United States, or that he warned of a “Trojan horse” filled with refugees slaughtering innocent Americans, or that he proclaimed, “Islam hates us.”

kalm,
I would argue that something like 95% of Pro-Lifers aren't actually "pro-life"
They are pro US born white fetus...

as soon as you start migrating away from those three criteria the support drifts dramatically
test my theory by substituting a different word in any one of the three below
substitute 2 of the three and you're completely off the pro-life radar
but you can get good results with any one of the three

1) US
2) white
3) Fetus

My thoughts on abortion aside -

I usually jump in to the debate because most abortion proponents also coincidentally consider themselves on the right side of science in all other matters

I guess it's kinda the same way American feminists will criticize every pop culture medium imaginable looking for sexism and "objectification" , except curiously rap music.

And how the status of women in Arab countries isn't scrutinized as much as in the west by liberal feminists 'cause Islamophobia.

You know I think there is something to that. I'd amend it though because the fetus stage of development is reached after about the 8th or 9th week after conception. So maybe I'd just capture the whole developmental period by saying something like "pre-natal individual."

Me, I'd just say that developmental stage is not a basis for denying the right to life. Also, I take the position that the life of the female carrying the unborn individual is not innately more important than the life of the individual she's carrying is.

That means I would be characterized as "pro life." But that's not really it. It's kind of like characterizing people as "pro choice" because they think a woman should be able to end a pregnancy. Nobody is really in favor of any choice regardless of what it is and nobody is in favor of absolutely refusing to end a life regardless of what the situation is.

It's really a matter of disagreement about the nature of the pre-natal individual and whether that individual has as much of a right to live as post-natal individuals do.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

John its no surprise to me that you've given this debate some thought...

I mostly find this one fascinating because so many who are extremely steadfast in one corner or the other
haven't actually given the entire spectrum of each side in depth thought
They settle on a decision based entirely on emotion

it's a tricky son-of-a-bitch if you really walk each point out to its final conclusion
It really should be called pre-natal rights and not pro-life
I know a sh!tload of pro-life advocates that are absolutely NOT pro-life...

they are pro pre-natal rights but brutally savage everywhere thereafter
