No, I have argued that haplogroups define race, but races are generally groupings of haplogroups with common origins.

Several tribes were known to adopt runaway slaves. The Lumbee tribe in North Carolina basically assimilated with runaway slaves to the point that many of them appear to be slightly light skinned Africans.
