I live in Illinois where the electoral votes are going blue regardless of how I vote. In this situation a 3rd party vote is actually more effective than a Rep (or Dem) vote because it sends a message that I'm not drinking the Rep ((or Dem) kool-aid and they better do something different if they want my vote.

I would have vote for GJ regardless because his positions were more closely aligned with mine than any other candidate's.

To me, it has to start locally. You need them in state houses, mayors offices, legislatures, etc...All that needs to happen before they get a realistic shot at the White House. I always vote for Libertarian at the state/local level.
