That's not a "scientific fact" at all. You're talking about people calling into radio talk shows.

You guys are amazing. It's very unlikely that people lied to exit polling staff about things like what they considered to be the most important issue facing the country.

Right. Someone is asked what they think the most important issue facing the country is and they think, "I'm going to say it's illegal immigration instead of saying it's the economy because I want to fool these pollsters into thinking I care most about illegal immigration when what I REALLY care about is the economy!"

Again: It wasn't about the economy. It was about the kinds of social issues White Evangelical Christians care about, illegal immigration, and to some extent terrorism.

You guys dismiss exit polling but want to go with stuff like people calling radio talk shows and making claims. Just incredible.

BTW I'll go ahead and mention that another thing the exit polling shows is that the Clinton e mail server thing was huge. That really hurt her. 63% of voters said that bothered them and among those Trump won by 69% to 24%.

I don't know why so many people want to engender this myth about it being about the economy when that is so obviously not the case.
It's called sarcasm. And you need to get over it. I'll take election results of all the polling data you can spew. Where it counts, Trump won, he won states that normally don't go for Republicans and he won over 300 electoral votes. Now, you can spew he lost the popular vote but that is a moot point because those votes don't matter. Electoral votes do...and he won. Everyone here knows how you feel. Nobody cares. Save yourself the time and energy. Now is the time to accept the results like an adult and prepare to live in Trump's America.

And if you can't, then leave.

What was the percentage of people that said no to the exit poll, the thought the economy was the reason they voted for who they did? I for one, never reply to exit pollsters.

You guys keep looking for ways to dismiss the exit polls but you have absolutely no real basis for inferring that the difference was about the economy. It's stuff like, "These States had growth rates below the national average growth rate and they went Republican this time when they went Democrat last time therefore it was the economy."

So we have exit polls where people actually make an effort to find out directly why people voted the way they did . They contradict what you're pre-disposed to believe so you want to dismiss the exit polls. But by the way you'll look at somebody calling Rush Limbaugh and saying they lied to pollsters as reliable data.

Speaking of exit polling here is another interesting breakdown:

It has to do with Whites who are NOT Evangelical Christians vs. those who ARE. When it comes to Whites who are not Evangelical Christians, exit polling estimates for how they voted changed very little from 2008 to 2012 to 2016. In 2008 the Democrat won among that group by 36 percentage points (62% to 36%). IN 2012 the Democrat won among that group by 33 percentage points (60% to 37%). In 2016 the Democrat won among that group by 36 percentage points again (60% to 34%).

So there is no indication of an increase in support for Trump among Whites who aren't Evangelical Christians. In fact it looks like he didn't do quite as well as Romney did among that group.

Where did his support improve? We've already talked about it: White Evangelical Christians. In 2008 the Republican won among that group by 50 percentage points (74% to 24%). In 2012 it was 57 percentage points (78% to 21%). In 2016 the Republican won among that group by 64 percentage points (80% to 16%).

So, if it was the economy rather than "social issues" types of things that are associated with White Evangelical Christians, why is it that it looks like Trump got LESS support among Whites who are NOT Evangelical Christians than Romney did but got MORE support among the Whites who ARE Evangelical Christians?

That's a rhetorical question. The answer is, "It wasn't the economy."

It's just one more thing that points to the fact that this was about things other than the economy.

I already said it was because people disliked Hillary, so they voted for Trump. Sorry you wasted so much time typing your response. There's Lies, Damn Lies and then there are statistics.

In the breakdown about what people thought the most important issue was 13% said foreign policy, 13% said immigration, 52% said the economy, and 18% said terrorism. 13+13+52+18=96 so it could be that 4% didn't have an opinion on that.

Of the 52% who said they thought the economy was the most important issue, 7% were categorized as "other/no answer." Recall that there were a Libertarian and a Green Party candidate involved.

I think it's instructive also to compare how that question went this time to how it went in 2012. Even if you put all 7% who either were for a "third Party" candidate or didn't respond in Trump's column Clinton still won among those who considered the economy the most important issue by 52% to 48%. In 2012 the Republican, Romney, won among those who thought the economy was the most important issue by 51% to 47%.

It's pretty clear that Trump did WORSE among people who said the economy was the most important issue than Romney did.

It's just ridiculous to say, in the face of something like that, that the difference between Romney losing last time and Trump winning this time was concern over the economy.

Did they ask the question whether the voter did not like Hillary as the reason they voted. It looks like your exit poll only asked a specific group of questions, therefore forcing the voter to only chose from the list presented. Like I said there's lies, there's damn lies and there's statistics.

So I happened to catch, on CNN last night, a segment where Van Jones wanted to find out what happened in the election. He went to Ohio and sat down with a family who are Dems and voted for Obama in 08 and 12, and live in a county that has voted Donk since 1976. This time they voted for Trump. Jones asked them why, and they said "the economy".

Other quotes:
"We voted for Obama because we wanted 'change'. We voted for Trump for the same reason."
"Hillary's slogan was 'I'm With Her'. Trump came here and said 'I'm with you'."
