CAA Forecast - Northeastern

Post by jstclmet »

The Pluses:
1. 14 Starters return (5 Off, 7 Def, + 2 St)
2. OL comes back 3/5 (RG Morris 6'6 292 lbs, RT Newhall 6'4 289, LT Niland 6'5 291).
3. The play @ Parson's field which can be a "X" factor on "Any Given Saturday".

The Negatives:
1. One small DL returns (Vega 6'5 246)
2. Last year's Def gave up 29.1 PPG, 189.8 Rushing YPG, 238.4 Pass YPG. and doesn't look much better this year.
3. Offense will be in major rebuild mold.

The schedule:

9/5 @ Boston College. BC will run away with this thing early routing the Huskies 56 - 0.

9/12 vs Maine. Maine comes into this season loaded for bear, and pushes the Huskies all over the field for a 27 - 3 victory.

9/19 vs Youngstown St. Like Maine, YSU also comes back loaded with talent and runs through and round the smaller Husky defense in a 21 - 7 win.

9/26 @ Villanova. The Huskies suffer their 4th straight loss while getting bullied by Nova 28 - 7.

10/3 vs Holy Cross. If HC isn't ranked by now, they should be. A tough matchup for the Huskies as HC pulls away in the 2nd half 25 - 13.

10/10 vs William & Mary. NU faces another ranked team and loses 7 - 24 as the Tribe's ground game is too tough for NJ.

10/17 A much needed Bye

10/24 vs Towson. The sun shines on the Huskies as they hang on to win in front of the home crowd against the equally depeleted Tigers 21 - 16.

10/31 @ New Hampshire. The Wildcats run away from the Huskies early enroute to a 35 - 13 win.

11/7 @ UMass. The Huskies lose again to a much more physical UMass squad on the road 31 - 16.

11/14 vs Hofstra. HU returns to much on both sides of the ball for NU to contend with. Keeping the ball on the ground, HU wins 42 - 21.

11/21 @ Rhode Island. In the season finale, the Rams prove victorious at home in a close 21 - 17 win.

CAA 1 - 7, Overall 1 - 10

Pretty spot on.

Only two other winnable games, IMHO, are Hofstra and URI

I think they will take down URI as well this year. The only reason I say this is because of the number of close games they had last year. North Eastern is going to be a battered and beaten squad this year, with a lot to prove. I see 2 or 3 wins out of the group, just because this damn coference is so tough.
