Obama Rating
Now that we are inside of the 2 minute warning on the Obama Administration, it's time to rate the overall job by our President.
Be honest. I think we can all agree that 10's and 1's will not be realistic.

5 for me. He didn't really screw anything up, but he didn't really do a lot either. I probably should've gone with a 4 since he came in with such high expectations and he ended up not coming close to meeting any of those expectations.

Re: Obama Rating
I'm having a hard time coming up with the good things he has done. And those things may be hidden in the avoidance of more bad things. I don't know.
But I can come up with some bad things. Some of which he may not have had much of a choice (meaning it would turn out bad, or turn out much worse, and he chose bad.). And some of the bad things were driven by Pelosi and Reid, and not Obama. But we are looking at a period of time, and the political decisions made during that time.
I'm going to go with 4 because I see more bad than good.

Re: Obama Rating
What kind of metrics are we going to use? My net worth skyrocketed under his administration, but I didn't agree with a lot of his decisions and indecision's that obviously didn't hamper my climb up the economic ladder. I entered the labor force full time the summer prior to his election in '08.
Biggest things I hold against him:
We're still fighting an endless war in Iraq/Aghanland
We've added boots on the ground in more ME places (Syria, Yemen, Libya).
Racism is a thing again.
Circumvented Congress when he didn't get his way (administrative overreach).
Horrible SCOTUS picks.
Biggest things I credit him for:
Killing OBL.
Fucking over the OPEC nations by an inability to regulate fracking.
Letting Wall Street continue to do it's thing (see personal net worth skyrocket above).
Status quo on immigration. This gives us white collar folks greater purchasing power.
Emphasis on green energy (could be seen as a negative, but I think over time with the right policy adjustments green energy will be a huge component of weening ourselves off of foreign oil).
I'm sure there are plenty more but those come to the top of my head first.

3 for me, he did FA except Obamacare which is a complete mess. He was as inept as his resume was when we elected him.

I give him a 2. So much promise; so little accomplishment. Such a disappointment.

Re: Obama Rating
Two for me. Reasons:
* Most transparent administration ever? Nope.
* Obamacare - 'nuff said
* Racial divides
* Out of Iraq? Sorta, but still in as an "advisory role" and our guys are still getting killed
* Close Gitmo? Negatory
* Syrian red line debacle
* Makes fun of Romney for saying Russia will be a big deal, then turns out Romney was right
* Arrogance. "I could win a third term if I were eligible".
* IRS targeting
* Fast and Furious
* Expansion of NSA
* Arab Spring debacle
* ISIS is "JV team"
* Iranian "ransom"
* 9 trillion more in debt
* Cop disrespect in general
* People drop out of work force, trumpets it as improving unemployment
* "But Bush" ad nauseum
Positives:
* Bin Laden is dead, but it was inconvenient since it interrupted his golf game.

-Obamacare
-Deterioration of race relations
-Exploding of national debt (nearly doubled the amout Bush added)
-All his foreign policy disasters.
-Unemployment (labor force participation rate 30+ year low).

Re: Obama Rating
This is the strange thing. The "party for the poor" has managed to keep interest rates low and the rich has benefited in the stock market. In reality, most companies are only doing a little bit better than they were doing 8 years ago. But many of those same companies have had a significant stock appreciation during this time.SDHornet wrote: Letting Wall Street continue to do it's thing (see personal net worth skyrocket above).
Two words: Share Buyback.
It's giving a false read on the economy.
Again, good for investors = rich. Means nothing for the poor.

Energy: C+. Tens of billion in subsidies for wind and solar, only loan guarantees for nuclear power. Preaches about reducing CO2 emissions while promoting a plan that will only slow emissions growth. Fracking has worked well for us, but how safe is it?
Economy: C. The economy was going to recover no matter what. Talks tough about banks while Eric Holder was working for a cushy Wall Street job the whole time. Cared more about getting a Fed Chair with a vagina than someone who might have ideas other than keeping interest rates at rock bottom and endless QE.
Health Care: D. You got people with preexisting conditions health insurance. Swell. Now how do we actually bring costs down?
National Security: D. DHS was more concerned about Timothy McVeighs than they were about Omar Mateen and the Tsarnaev brothers. Possibly unnecessary saber-rattling with Russia.
Foreign Policy: F. Seems like everything has gone to sheet since the Arab Spring and there seems to be no end to it in sight. Iran deal is a joke and the only question is how much to we let Iran flaunt it before we dissolve it.
Education: F. More of the same bipartisan no-child-gets-ahead crap from the GWB administration. Promoted garbage common core.
Social Issues: F. Divisive race crap divided the country from Henry Louis Gates to Trayvon to Ferguson. Overplayed his hand big time on the transgender bathroom stuff. We have gone from the divisiveness of abortion and gays to bathrooms and cries of "systemic racism".

I dunno, all I know is I made out like a bandit. The narratives tend to over credit/scrutinize the POTUS during economic swings. Take it however you want all I did was keep shoveling money into my retirement account, the rest just kinda happened.bandl wrote:So are you giving OB all the credit?
