Reminded to start this. The thing I was most wrong about early on during the Republican primaries is thinking that White Evangelical Christians would never support Trump in numbers sufficient for him to win. I look at White Evangelical Christians as the voting block Republicans depend on most. Kind of like the Democrats depend on the Black voting block. I did not think they would rally behind someone so obviously contrary to their purported values as Trump is.

But I was wrong. In fact, they supported Trump to a greater extent than they supported G.W. Bush in 2004, John McCain in 2008, or Mitt Romney in 2012. Here's the extent to which they supported the Republican candidate during each of those years:



So they run around telling us about Jesus and sweetness and love and light. But when it comes down to it they support a vile, hedonist con man who has spent his life scamming people including things like scamming people out of their lifes' savings AND who also set new standards for dishonesty and general atrocious behavior during a national campaign to a greater extent than they supported three decent men.

I've defended White Evangelical Christians in the past. But no more. The overwhelming majority of them are hypocrites who will sell out and throw their principles out the window in a heartbeat. They clearly are more loyal to a political party then they are to the God they insist exists and must be honored because they sure as hell didn't honor the God they describe through their actions during this election.

And yes I've heard the rationalizations. None of them fly. They are either lying to us or lying to themselves when they try to justify what they just did. They more than any other group are responsible for the atrocity that just unfolded.

BTW I should say that not ALL White Evangelical Christians are hypocrites. My wife, as you know, resigned her position on the Republican State Central Committee over Trump. My son and daughter are both White Evangelical Christians and they didn't vote for him. They did not sell out.

It's the 81% who voted for Trump that are the sell outs and hypocrites. And, unfortunately, that means rational people have to look at White Evangelical Christians as a group as a negative influence on the country. They need to be opposed. Obviously others concluded that a long time ago and I disagreed with them until I was forced to see those people as what they are during this election cycle. I was wrong. They're a problem.

What the heck I'll go ahead and broaden it: You take the 26% of voters who were White Evangelical Christians out of the equation and the rest of the country favored Clinton over Trump by 59% to 35%.

When Trump went down to Lynchburg and started nuzzling up to J-Fal Jr, I just lol'ed. I knew he secured himself a couple of million free votes just by holding his nose and doing it. Genius move on the Trumpster's part.

I was informed this weekend (after having voted for Palin) that a couple of years ago (before Trump even bothered forming an exploratory committee) Trump converted to Christianity. That was at least ONE of the things these voters were looking at.
