The Handwriting is on the Wall

Post by JohnStOnge »

As I've said all along I think a Trump win in this election would be and now is fools gold for the Republicans. Winning a battle but taking a big step towards losing the war. Even with Hillary making that fateful horrible decision to use a private server and the Russians/Wikileaks coming in on Trump's side the Democrat still won the popular vote. And the Republicans took a step backwards in doing what would be necessary for them to remain competitive nationally for the long term. We've talked about it, but here by Census Bureau numbers is how the percent non Hispanic Whites has changed over time in the United States:

1940 - 88.3%
1950 - 87.5%
1960 - 85.4%
1970 - 83.5%
1980 - 79.6%
1990 - 75.6%
2000 - 69.1%
2010 - 63.7%
2015 - 61.6%

By 2020 it should be below 60%. This has also been reflected in percent "Whites" as defined by exit polls voting in Presidential elections. Here's how that goes 2004 - 2016:

2004 - 77%
2008 - 74%
2012 - 72%
2016 - 70%

And, again, a very bad Democratic candidate with a lot of baggage and the Russians engaged in cyber warfare to keep her from being elected got the majority of the popular vote.

Trump went the exact opposite direction Republicans needed to go if they want hope for the long term. Now his cultists will misinterpret what just happened as indicating that the way he did it is the way to go. But the way he did it has now facilitated a long standing effort to brand the Republican Party as hostile to the interest of minorities. It also branded it as the party favored by White Nationalists.

Enjoy the moment, Republicans, because moments like this are going to be extinct in, by historical terms, a relatively short time frame.

The handwriting was on the wall, but I don't think it says what you think it says.

Do they let JSO write on the walls in the place where they're keeping him now? I didn't think cushioned walls were easy to write on.

Naturally JSO shows up spewing the leftist narratives. What a tool.

The left just got their ass handed to them, I would love to see them double down on the racist, homophobe, socialism, anti-American stance that just cost them a mandate election. :dunce:

JSO, its not really handwriting.......its more like copy & paste.

Seriously the last time you said anything relevant, Michael Jackson was still black, the Rubicks cube was hard to solve because you couldnt watch a youtube video and Trump was still democrat.

Has nothing to do with being sore. It's reality. Republicans really, really screwed up. I have been saying all along that the worse thing that could happen for both the Republican Party and the Country is for Trump to win. I also have been saying that it's possible that he could because Clinton was such a bad candidate.

Now the worst thing has happened. Do I wish it wouldn't have? Of course. But the reality is the reality. The days of the Republican Party being a viable check on Democratic Party power are numbered. And it's a smaller number than it was before the Republicans decided to nominate Trump.

Dude, the "left" candidate won the majority of the popular vote in spite of having been under FBI investigation, having the Russians/Wikileaks come in on the other side with cyber warfare, and having the FBI director drop "nothing burger" that was a gift to the Trump campaign 11 days before the election. The "left" candidates have now won the popular vote in 6 of the past 7 Presidential elections.

What cost them a mandate election is that Clinton made a bad decision a few years back in deciding to use a private e mail server. If she had not done that she'd have crushed Trump even with the Russians trying to help him. The Republican Party has serious long term issues right now. This is like when the Confederates won Bull Run. Yes they had a victory. But the handwriting was on the wall in terms of the underlying realities of resources and population.

For the long term, the Republicans needed to find a way to appeal to non Whites. I'm not saying they needed to sacrifice their principles. But they at least needed to avoid being perceived as bigots. Now they moved WAY over into being more perceived as bigots. Now they are the Party of White Nationalists and intolerance.

And as I said in another thread they really didn't gain anything in terms of THEIR support. Trump did about like Romney did in terms of getting votes and maybe not quite as well. What happened is they won because the Democrat candidate did not get the support from that side.

The Republicans are screwed in the long term. And it's not going to be that long a term in a historical sense. They're about to go the way of the Whigs.

I'm not necessarily happy about that. I wanted the Republicans to remain viable in order to check the Democrats. But they just made a move that pretty much makes that very unlikely.

John, John, John,

First, Hillary's decision was more than just a "bad" decision. It was a conscious decision to use a private e-mail server to try and avoid public scrutiny of her activities which ended up biting her in the azz. Her life history is replete with similar decisions and actions. People didn't like or trust her because of her own actions.

Second, both parties are in a state of flux and we don't really know what's going to happen to either one of them. Yes demographic trends did not and still don't bode well for the long term health of the Republican party. Trump was able to capitalize on the redneck Republicans who felt ignored and taken for granted by the establishment (like your wife) to win the primary. He was then able to hold onto to that group and other voters who were repulsed by Hillary and win over a similar group of union and former union Democrats in the rustbelt that the Democratic party has ignored and taken for granted by their party establishment (do you see the theme here). If the Republican party is able to hold on to these working class voters they will delay the downward trend and buy themselves some time to adjust to the future.

Trump's Presidency will have a tremendous impact on the future of both parties but he is so mercurial I'm not sure how you can predict with any certainty what will actually happen.

We live in interesting times.

Yes I have been saying all along that the worst thing that could happen for Republicans and this country would be for Trump to win. I've been saying all along, once Trump was nominated, that the best thing for the Republican Party and the country would be for him to get blown out and the next best thing would be for him to lose.

I have not been saying "all along" that he could win if he were nominated. Back during the primaries I thought the Republicans would be committing suicide if they nominated him. The one thing I was really wrong about is that I could not see White Evangelical Christians supporting him. I look at the Republicans as needing the block vote among White Evangelical Christians like Democrats needing the block vote among Blacks. And I did not think Evangelical Christians would rally behind a vile, hedonist con man who got to where he was by scamming people (sometimes out of their life savings) and who set new standards for dishonesty as well as for just general atrocious behavior during a national campaign. But they did. I clearly over estimated their general integrity level. Turns out they're a bunch of hypocrites and I was also wrong to have been defending them all these years when people attacked them. I'm thinking of starting a separate thread on that phenomenon.

Recently, though, just from watching polls and the 538 forecast I considered the election too close to call. I'd say it was like that since all the stuff that happened during the week of October 24 including the Comey thing.
