Yeah, it's not like all of the neoconservatives in Bush I's administration had much input.

Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, and Richard Perle had very little input on foreign policy, right?

:?

If Trump fills his cabinet with neoconservatives like Bolton - you can expect his foreign policy to look like that.

If he fills his cabinet with isolationists - you can expect his foreign policy to look like that.

Bolton hates isolationism. Hates it. Appointing him to oversee a policy of isolationism makes absolutely no sense.

Obviously can and do cede some strongly held beliefs to serve an administration. But, they aren't going to serve wholly antithetical philosophies very well.

Well, if Trump wants more of an "isolationist," he'll appoint one. :twocents:

Guiliani looks even older than his early 70's - can't we find someone younger for AG?

I'll leave you to stew and reply with your uncle houndawg. I said what I had to say. Bolton is a neocon in the same vein as Hillary- who ALSO did not shape foreign policy outside of arguing that we should decapitate Libya

Not true, these Trump appointees will go rouge or something.

BTW, how long until actual movement/noise on his cabinet is seen?

Trump's election was about change, the last thing he needs to do is start appointing washed up retread hacks like Newt Gingrich and Rudy Giuliani. Second the "nobody who served Cheney should be allowed near our foreign policy" approach.

He'll need to have at least some Washington experience in the cabinet so Gingrich isn't a bad choice. Guiliani on the other hand is a turd who didn't appear all that with it at times during the election.

Agreed. And besides, Gingrich has been out of the establishment for years now so although he knows Washington, he hasn't really been a part of it recently. And for all of his faults, Newt's a pretty smart guy - Trump could do much worse than Newt. And yes, Guiliani doesn't look all that with it anymore. He's hitting the senile times and I'd rather someone else be the AG.

Just from looking at the rumors about the cabinet floating around....I project Trump will run the most non-descript Republican administration you can imagine.

It's a sigh of relief for people who think Trump is going to nuke any world leader who insults him on twitter. And it will also be a big disappointment to dunderheads that think Trump's really going to build a bleeping wall 20 feet high and thousands of miles long.

Hey look klam-

Skelly agrees with you

I guess you guys were screwed no matter what happened-

1. Neocon interventionist Hillary or 2. the possibility Trump would appoint a neocon interventionist SecState (who also knows the value of leverage in diplomacy)

Nothing about Trump suggests that he will entertain the counsel of people who would keep us embroiled in foreign conflicts that aren't pertinent to our own national security - but the one thing we do know is what Hillary's FP would have looked like

Maybe Trump will turn out to be another "spread democracy like manna" leader - I've been wrong before and I'll be wrong again. But I'll guarantee you this- I'll even make an avatar bet on it - we won't be toppling any more countries' leadership and leaving power vacuums like Bush and Obama did. Trump is going to be a domestic policy President. You can take that to the bank.

Yeah I think I'll take #2 for $500, Alex

The MoonBats over at the View are saying they would like to see Hillary and Bernie in Trump's Cabinet...really

Yeah, I don't think think it made much of a difference who won the election.

I had the same hopes for Obama that you have for Trump. Obama certainly didn't enter the Presidency as a neoconservative by any means... but, his foreign policy wasn't much different. I think it would easily be one of the biggest complaints both kalm and I would have of Obama's presidency.

I'm not taking him at his word, because he hasn't said anything other than "make America great again", "beautiful wall", and something about grabbing poonannies

If you have some tea leaves that tell you what his foreign policy will be then good for you

The ONE area where he seems to start to drift into any area of detail is when he's talking domestic policy and actual physical homeland security. The very first thing he referenced in his acceptance speech was infrastructure. He's short on detail but he is obviously leaning that way, and I'm inclined to think that our overseas activities are going to have a paradigm shift over the next few years
