You know, I think I am part of "the right." But I am old. And I have noted that ever since Hillary Clinton emerged as a national figure there are elements of "the right" that have felt compelled to try to demonize her. All SORTS of things that have never been substantiated as instances in which she didn't do what "the right" accused her of. Cattle futures. Whitewater. Attacking sexual assault victims. Now it's lying about e mails and pay for play with the Clinton foundation.

Again: The ideas that she lied about sending/receiving classified e mails on her private server and that there was "pay for play" associated with the Clinton Foundation are NOT substantiated. They just aren't.

To me, in the long run, this sort of thing just damages the credibility of "the right."

Clinton did not ensure that her work-related emails were preserved on the State Department system in real time, nor did she surrender them immediately when she left office.

Clinton says that at the time, she thought her setup was allowed. But it’s hard not to be skeptical of that narrative because she was involved in multiple memos urging employees to minimize personal email use. And Bureau of Diplomatic Security employees tried unsuccessfully to get Clinton to use a department-issued BlackBerry smartphone as soon as she took office.

As of last night she still was saying her intent to resign but she might not write the pubic letter. I actually told her she really needs to think about it because she worked really hard to get elected to her position the first time. At the same time I hope she does resign. But i do want her to really think about it.

Well, if you don't agree with the FBI you don't agree with the FBI. What I'm talking about is this thing where people keep saying that Comey's statement showed she lied when she didn't send or receive any classified e mail. And that's not true. He clearly said she did send classified e mail. But he also said they didn't have evidence to show that she knowingly mishandled classified information.

I went through this with the whole thing where Gowdy asked Comey a series of questions as though the answers to the questions showed that Clinton lied. None of them did. Sure, it's possible that she lied. But this idea that Comey's said things to "confirm" that she lied about anything just isn't an accurate idea.

The other thing I would add is that way too many people took Comey's suggestion that intent is an element of the Federal statute. It is not.

Regardless of knowledge, intent, etc., as SOS the buck stopped at her desk and she was responsible for the security of that information. She should be held responsible for her and her staff's failure to protect that information. No if's and's or but's about it.

If Ibanez, 93 or another federal employee (or a private sector employee for that matter) had done something similar the best they could hope for would be termination of employment. Worst case they would be prosecuted. Hillary is getting a promotion.
