My Wife Plans to Resign from State Republican Central Committee

Post by JohnStOnge »

She was talking to me about it today. She's going to write a letter to the editor about it. Says she's going to kind of invoke Reagan. You know, Reagan said that he was a Democrat and that he didn't really leave the Democratic Party but the Democratic Party left him. So she's going to say she didn't leave the Republican Party but the Republican Party left her.

I'm proud of her. I've watched Republican after Republican sacrifice their principles in order to justify supporting the current Republican Presidential nominee. She's not going to do it.

And this is not an "establishment" Republican. As I've told y'all before she's where she is because she was recruited by "Insurgents" to challenge the "establishment" candidate for her slot. And she won.

But she just can't be part of what's going on with the Republican Party right now. She doesn't have to do this. She could go along to get along. But she's going to do it. Good for her.

Something about the forest and trees.

JSO, after the new SCOTUS's are picked, and taxes are raised, and foreign affairs fall to an all-time low, and................you will not want to come on this board again. You might as well take your Hillary pompoms and leave now.

I think HIllary would be a lot better on the foreign affairs front than Trump would be. As for the SCOTUS and taxes: Whatever negatives come to pass in those areas won't be on my head. They'll be on the heads of all the idiots that voted to make Trump the Republican nominee. As I've written many times, the Republicans had a weak Democratic candidate and a bunch of good choices among their own. But they chose a mentally ill atrocity that no decent, sane person could support.

My wife was thinking of doing this before the video/audio of him describing himself as committing sexual assault came out. The last straw for her was a conversation with another Committee member. This guy had been anti Trump during the primaries.

She talked to him this past week and he said he's going to go ahead and support Trump. Came up with really weird reasons for that.

That was it. She concluded the Republican Party is whacked. If this is what the Republican Party is now she can't be a Republican any more.

To me she's doing the ethical thing. Always in the past she's worked hard for Republicans during elections. Get out the vote stuff and all. She can't in good conscience do that this time so she's stepping down.

HA! Just talked to her on the phone and she now says she doesn't know what to do! She's struggling. No way she's going to work on Trump's behalf. No way she supports him. But she does believe in the principles of the Republican Party as they existed before Trump came on the scene. At the same time she looks at the support for Trump as an indication that something really bad has happened to the Republican Party. She doesn't know if it's possible to save it.

I told her I'll support her no matter what she decides. I know this is tough on her. She's a very sincere person who previously believed in what she was doing in being a Republican Party activist but she is absolutely horrified by what the Republican Party has done in nominating Trump. And that was the case before this more recent thing.

You know, CAA, I'm sure there is plenty of nonsense in the videos you're posting. But whether there is or not it doesn't matter. From my wife's perspective, she's worried about what HER Party does. And HER Party nominated an atrocity. The question of whether Hillary is an atrocity or not is a separate issue. What she's looking at is the fact that the Party she has worked hard for for many years just nominated a total abomination who is totally unqualified, is unstable, and has no business being President of the United States. It's a sobering situation.

Did a Hillary fanboy just say he was joining the Constitution Party? Good God is that a confused, conflicted person.

So, you wife LIED about leaving the Republican party. Said she was going to do one thing...and now she isn't going to do what she said she would. Yup, she's a politician through and through.

JSO, you better check Politifact to see how many lies your wife has told so far...probably a lot more than you're willing to admit, and she's catching up to Trump. :thumb:

I have to do some more reading but right now I think you end up very close to the same place by virtue of following the Libertarian or Constitution Party platforms. You've all seen me write a lot about believing that I think the country should follow the Constitution according to its original understanding and that's basically what the Constitution Party is about. A big factor in me thinking of changing is that the Constitution Party believes in a right to life from the moment of conception. I've had doubts about staying in the LIbertarian Party for years not only because it's an abortion on demand party but because its members appear to be close minded with respect to arguments to the contrary. To me a pro life position is perfectly consistent with libertarian principles if you start with the premise that a member of our species has a right to live from the moment its existence is established. Under that premise it is no more contrary to libertarian principles than saying I don't have a right to walk up to somebody and blow their head off with a shotgun for no reason other than they inconvenience me by being there is. Trying to get that through the heads of people in the Libertarian Party hierarchy is like trying to reason with a cypress knee.

I think the Constitution Party offers an alternative I agree with on most if all major issues and they don't have that flaw of being radically pro choice to the point of not even wanting to listen to contrary arguments.

Oh...the Constitution Party is not pro drug legalization or pro prostitution legalization per se but as far as I can tell it thinks such matters should be left to the States. I can live with that. I think it's consistent with the original understanding of the Constitution. They'd eliminate the DEA. That would be great.

No, John it doesn't.

My brother in law is a county sherrif in rural Eastern Washington and has had to deal with Constitution Party members on several occasions. They are a backwards thinking, Christian dominionist theocracy loving, heavily armed group, of doomsdayers, who deny the authority of law enforcement both local and federal. Believe me, the local sheriff's department is 100% conservative but they keep a watchful eye on these guys and deem them somewhat dangerous.

But just for you, I did briefly check out their website and here's one little nugget I found.

"We call on our local, state and federal governments to uphold our First Amendment right to free speech by vigorously enforcing all laws against obscenity."

Upon further reading...this might be a good for you and your wife.
