Vietnam, as with other countries, serves its own interests.

And, the hatred between Vietnam and China is on par with the worst hatreds between any two groups of people on the planet.

China is flexing its muscles and Vietnam is the little guy watching their 400lb neighbor move the fence across the property line between their yards.

As a result, Vietnam will use us as they used the Russians and Chinese. We are a balance to China...nothing more.

I wasn't implying that the Vietnamese currently had affinity for us for any other reason.
