NAU 20-34 WIU
UMT 20-14 UNI
BRY 24-27 MTST
NOCO 55-52 ACU
UND 26-27 BGSU

  • NConf Record: 6-7
    Overall: 11-15

    vs. FCS: 5-3
    Overall: 6-4

Best Performance: (#14) Montana 20, (#3) Northern Iowa 14 - The Griz pull off the biggest FCS/FCS win of 2016 thus far thanks to a 14-2 advantage in special-teams points and their defense making Aaron Bailey's life a living hell.

Worst Performance: Weber St. 49, South Dakota 52 (2OT) - The Wildcats suffer a serious gut punch to their playoff-contention hopes as they blow a game in which they had two 21-point leads.

Most Surprising Result: (#16) Portland St. 35, (FBS) San Jose St. 66 - Not only did last year's darlings commit 6 turnovers, their defense is allowing 543.5 ypg so far this season.

Southland

TXSO 20-24 HBU
NOCO 55-52 ACU
uwa 24-30 SFA
LAM 0-42 UH
SAM 35-29 UCA
SELU 23-28 SUU

NICH 24-26 UGA

  • NConf Record: 2-6
    Overall: 4-12

    vs. FCS: 1-3
    Overall: 1-3

Best Performance: Nicholls St. 24, (FBS) Georgia 26 - The Colonels nearly pull off the biggest upset of all time thanks to a defense that held Georgia to 13 points in 4 redzone trips.

Worst Performance: Stephen F. Austin 30, (DII) West Alabama 24 - Southland teams playing down to DIIs is nothing new, but still… Lumberjack QB Zach Conque had a terrible day, going 20/47 for just 166 yards.

Most Surprising Result: Nicholls St. 24, (FBS) Georgia 26 - Since that win over Western Michigan a few years ago, it's become quite apparent that Nicholls State would be better off playing FBS opponents than FCS ones. :?

Missouri Valley

EWU 44-50 NDSU (OT)
WEB 49-52 SDK (2OT)
DRAKE 28-56 SDKST
UMT 20-14 UNI

ILST 9-7 NW
NAU 20-34 WIU
SEMO 22-30 SIU
INST 28-58 MINN
YSU 21-38 WVU

  • NConf Record: 7-3
    Overall: 14-7

    vs. FCS: 6-1
    Overall: 11-1

Best Performance: (#10) Illinois St. 9, (FBS) Northwestern 7 - This probably wasn't much fun to watch, but the Redbirds did hold the Big Ten Wildcats to 277 yards and 3.8 yards-per-play.

Worst Performance: Missouri St. 28, Murray St. 22 - Don't get me wrong, it's good that the Bears ended their 13-game losing streak against FCS teams, but Murray was still the worst opponent any Missouri Valley squad played this week.

Most Surprising Result: (#10) Illinois St. 9, (FBS) Northwestern 7 - With how much they lost in the offseason, it really is surprising to see this year's Redbirds get the school's first-ever win over a Big Ten team.

OVC

SEMO 22-30 SIU
EIU 21-17 MIAMIU
JAXST 13-34 LSU
pike 14-55 EKU
MIZST 28-22 MUR
JSU 26-40 TSU (in Memphis, TN)
UTM 36-41 HAW
TTU 41-7 AP

  • NConf Record: 3-5
    Overall: 5-12

    vs. FCS: 1-2
    Overall: 2-4

Best Performance: Eastern Illinois 21, (FBS) Miami (OH) 17 - The Panthers get their 5th. win against current MAC schools despite losing yardage & turnovers and getting dominated in time-of-possession.

Worst Performance: Austin Peay 7, Tennessee Tech 41 - In what might've been their best opportunity for a win all season, the Governors are instead eviscerated by Michael Birdsong & co.

Most Surprising Result: Eastern Illinois 21, (FBS) Miami (OH) 17 - Eastern Illinois gets their first FBS win since Jimmy Garoppolo was their quarterback. Jimmy Garoppolo wins his first NFL start. Coincidence? I think not. :shake:

Pioneer League

USD 16-38 CP
DRAKE 28-56 SDKST

CAMP 47-14 chow
JU 7-55 LIB
war 15-30 STET
VMI 17-13 MHEAD

  • NConf Record: 5-6
    Overall: 8-13

    vs. FCS: 1-6
    Overall: 1-12

Best Performance: Campbell 47, (DII) Chowan 14 - The Camels win rushing 288-1 and crush the Hawks for the 2nd. straight year.

Worst Performance: Valparaiso 14, Sacred Heart 42 - The Crusaders haven't won a I-AA/FCS non-conference game since 2003 and they haven't even been close in one since 2004.

Most Surprising Result: Morehead St. 13, VMI 17 - Not surprising for the final margin, but surprising because both historically-porous defenses were able to hold prolific passers Al Cobb and Austin Gahafer to such pedestrian numbers.

Tomorrow: the rest of the playoff conferences.

Murray State is not worse than Drake and SEMO. Call it what ever you want but the Bears are much improved over last year. This was far from the worst performance in the Valley this week.

Drake's debatable, but SEMO finished higher than Murray and also beat them by 17 points last year.

I don't see how a simple defensive match comes off as a worst performance (whose?) when VMI only beat a PL team by 4 points.

Well, they were the only SoCon team to lose an FCS games while Morehead was one of the better PFL teams last year. Pretty close, though.

I'm confused. Our special teams only accounted for 7 points, not 14, and their special teams didn't score a safety, so not sure where the 2 came from.

I think he means UNI had 2 PATs, and we had the punt return TD (7), 2 FGs and 1 other extra point.

Oh. I've never considered PAT's or FG's as "special teams".....lol

But if you want to count that, shouldn't you consider the 3 points UNI DIDN'T get because they missed the FG?

If it ain't offense and it ain't defense then it's ST.

And that's why the only had 2 ST points...

Point being, their ST failed to get 3 points....or our ST STOPPED them from getting 3 points...to me that's a 17-2 swing or 14 to -1 swing....
