Don't disagree that economic stability is important, I think overall conference stability is the reason the socin went in the direction they did . But you also have to look at geographic competitive issues.Aho Old Guy wrote:I take a rather obtuse view (hopefully it will not torque folks the wrong way) -- I believe affiliations while still geographically centric are more and more endowment driven. Hence, ETSU, Mercer and VMI as opposed to others. Liberty & PC would leap to the top of the 'others' side of the ledger, but they still each generally register less than half of the endowments presented by ETSU, Mercer and VMI.OL FU wrote:
Wasn't ever gonna happen. My personal opinion ( and I know other's disagree) is that we should have offered Coastal ( and yes I know all the reason not too, but we still should have). IF we weren't taking CCU we sure weren't going to take Chuck South. PC and GWU just too close to FU and WC. and Liberty (oh well)

Alright man. Coastal was the best overall team from 2004 (their 2nd year) to today. There's no way to say CSU was going to rise regardless of Coastal program and its success.bucs90 wrote:Well Big South football didn't exist until 2002. CSU, LU and Elon were Independent up until then. I'm only speaking of football. I wouldn't agree with that last statement. CCU was the best overall team from 2004 to present just based on yearly success. But Liberty was already a solid FCS program before 2002. And CSU was gonna rise anyway just as part of the slow but steady growth of the program.Ibanez wrote:
The Big South is more than just football. Looking over it's history since 1983...I would say dumpster fire is accurate and even a slight exaggeration. It sucked ass before Coastal and i'm willing to wager that it'll go downhill now that Coastal is gone; it will rapidly plummet into the Earth if Liberty were to ever leave. Face it, Coastals football program was the rising tide and Liberty and CSU were the boats that it lifted.

I disagree. In 2002 CSU already had been planning to go from 35 to 65 scholarships, as well as increasing pay for coaches, number of support staff and renovating the stadium from total embarrassment to...well...adequate for high school haha. The Al Parish shit cost em some cash. That was all planned before Coastal. Late 90s/2000 CSU was worried about closing the gap w Liberty and SC State (damn 3 straight last minute losses!)Ibanez wrote:Alright man. Coastal was a great member. But there's nothing indicating that Kennesaw can't reach that same level of FCS play. They have the resources and are in a car better recruiting ground than Coastal:
Kennesaw State has 35,000 students vs Coastals 10,000
KSU has a $335 million endowment vs CCU $25 million
KSU sits in Cobb County/Atlanta Metro...which is right there with Miami, LA, Dallas as the best recruiting hotbeds in America.
I think KSU will do fine filling CCUs spot.

SC St unfortunately doesn't have the financial resources to leave the MEAC.bucs90 wrote:https://mobile.twitter.com/BigSouthFB/s ... 220352?p=v
Ok it's official, it's about "future membership". Someone is coming. I've heard North Alabama and West Georgia rumors. Also heard SC State might shock the MEAC and leave for BSC (I'd major support this).
My dark horse is Newberry. They announced major new stadium and athletic facility coming and their arch rival PC went D1 and is in Big South. Something tells me the Big South wants that intense rivalry and I'd love it.
