For those not young enough to remember ... The series began on November 1, 1913, in Charleston, South Carolina, with The Citadel winning 75–0.
Furman does lead the overall series 58-34–3, but The Vermin has lost 3 of the last 4 to the 'Hops.

If we were larger well known programs it would be one of the more storied rivalries in football complete with horse kidnappings, midnight campus raids, etc.Aho Old Guy wrote:For those not young enough to remember ... And yes Charlie Taafe sucks for moving the game from the season finale.
Re: Hey OL FU it's that time again
My uncle, class of 1965, tells some great stories of the pranks against Furman. He's the reason I went to Citadel games, became a fan (continue to be one today) and almost went in the Summer of 2001. I remember those Saturdays at J-H, getting peanuts and soda from the Brigadier Club, watching the cadets march in, getting excited every time the cannons fired. Honestly, it's a tradition that I will continue with my daughter but it'll be more difficult now that i'm in the Thrill.

I always loved the fact that the two buildings at the end of the Tree lined Mall at Furman are named for:
Herman W Lay - Founder of Lays potato Chips a Furman attendee but I don't think a graduate.
Charles Daniels - Daniel Construction (Now Flour Daniels) , Citadel Grad and huge benefactor for lots of programs and institutions in and around Greenville.

By 1939 he was able to buy a financially ailing snack food manufacturer in Atlanta, which became his base for the next two decades. Formed a National Brand
Pretty cool.

I will deny ever admitting this, but my Mom went to the WC back in the mid-40s for a few years before moving on to Chapel Hill ---- I grew up on *Furman Eggs*OL FU wrote:If we were larger well known programs it would be one of the more storied rivalries in football complete with horse kidnappings, midnight campus raids, etc.Aho Old Guy wrote:For those not young enough to remember ...
