Haven't made a bet for 2016 yet. AZ lost in 2008. Ivy lost in 2012.

Maybe you're the taker this year? :D
Sure. Current odds are 70:30 Clinton. I'll put down $30 to your $70 on Trump over Clinton. Winner take all. <extending my hand for shake>
Hey, 93, how about a bet using slightly different currency, but approximately the same odds. If Clinton beats Trump, you pay my share of the next Sambo's outing. If Trump beats Clinton, I pay your share of the next two Sambo's outings. Deal? :thumb:

You know there's no chance I can be there, my work never takes me that far south. Would love to go, but I can't do slower Delaware from where I live/work and my vacation days are stored up for kids sports or kids illnesses - flu season is on the way. I'll be there in spirit, though.

Leipsic is in the Delaware DMZ. I guess you could call it Slower Delaware if the wind is blowing from the south. It's in Smyrna district, which is the northernmost Henlopen Conference school district so maybe I can let it slide.

But never call Middletown "Slower Delaware". Guidos from Jersey are doing that now, which is so wrong.

Hey, the view from New Castle County has always been anything south of the canal counts as Slower Delaware. I thought you guys were proud of that distinction?

Sure. Can we throw in an avatar bet on top? More interested in public shaming than $30 bucks.

Winner controls loser's avatar for first term?

If I didn't already know I'm going to lose I might consider it. Purchasing $30 worth of Appy State shit is going to be bad enough.

Ok. Well, then it's a deal.

Gives me something to look forward to for the general. I still lose if Clinton wins in a more general sense. :(

But what happens when Russia turns its eye on Israel or whatever ally we claim to be of that we are supposedly willing to go to war over. How (or can?) we determine which allies are worth fighting for? That is the dilemma I was referring to.
That's not going to happen. Read my reply to Jelly's question.

Russia may seem unpredictable, but in fact they are one of our most predictable adversaries. They act exclusively in their own strategic interests.

Now look at NATO. Russia views NATO as an existential threat. Russia doesn't FEAR NATO right now- because the string pullers currently are wet noodles. But Russia understands all too well that today's NATO, although wishy washy, has the military infrastructure to be tomorrow's Wehrmacht (as far as they are concerned)

DSU said the same thing I did- Russia's annexation of Crimea was a direct reaction to Ukraine and NATO courting each other.

In the longer sense, we have been spiking the football on the Russians since the wall came down. We gad a golden opportunity to make an ally out of them and instead we humiliated them by folding many former Warsaw Pact countries into NATO. We did a few other things that were uncalled for.

The really frustrating thing here is that for all their faults, the Russians are natural allies. We will need them more in the next 50 years than we can imagine. We just need to recognize that they have a national inferiority complex coupled with a memory of being invaded and nearly squashed- we should take those things into account when we deal with them and the obvious way forward to having Russia as a partner will become evident even to an amateur.

To directly answer your question- Russia has no interest in our strategic allies like Israel.

JFC, JSO....do you read your own ****?

"Deterring Russia is essential. But this initiative seems like a reversion back to what the Pentagon has traditionally done — prepare to fight big wars with ever more costly weapons against adversaries like Russia. Threats from the Islamic State and other terrorist groups are messier and harder to predict. America must be able to confront both, but it is unclear that Mr. Carter’s plan gets the balance right."

The article you posted, in addition to the above, state that NATO, led by the US, is putting 5,000 troops on Russia's border...IN VIOLATION OF OUR TREATIES.

Of course, Obama, says that it isn't a violation because we are rotating the troops, so it isn't a permanent force. :dunce:

Russia isn't the threat...WE ARE. The fact you can't understand that is troubling, except then I remember that you are a backwoods guy raise in Louisiana school system.

OBAMA is pressing the Pentagon to say Russia is the biggest threat. The Pentagon isn't coming up with that on their own. They want to spend THREE TIMES the amount of money we are spending now in the area. Military industrial complex, much?

You are out of your league here, JSO. Stick to fishing. Of course, maybe that is what you are doing.

Paul Krugman is a douche.

And in other news...voting for either Hillary or Trump is still a wasted vote.
The Unrelenting Pundit-Led Effort to Delegitimize All Negative Reporting About Hillary Clinton

Glenn Greenwald
Sep. 6 2016, 7:53 a.m.
IN HIS New York Times column yesterday, Paul Krugman did something that he made clear he regarded as quite brave: He defended the Democratic Party presidential nominee and likely next U.S. president from journalistic investigations. Complaining about media bias, Krugman claimed that journalists are driven by “the presumption that anything Hillary Clinton does must be corrupt, most spectacularly illustrated by the increasingly bizarre coverage of the Clinton Foundation.” While generously acknowledging that it was legitimate to take a look at the billions of dollars raised by the Clintons as Hillary pursued increasing levels of political power — vast sums often received from the very parties most vested in her decisions as a public official — it is now “very clear,” he proclaimed, that there was absolutely nothing improper about any of what she or her husband did.

Krugman’s column, chiding the media for its unfairly negative coverage of his beloved candidate, was, predictably, a big hit among Democrats — not just because of their agreement with its content but because of what they regarded as the remarkable courage required to publicly defend someone as marginalized and besieged as the former first lady, two-term New York senator, secretary of state, and current establishment-backed multimillionaire presidential front-runner. Krugman — in a tweet proclamation that has now been re-tweeted more than 10,000 times — heralded himself this way: “I was reluctant to write today’s column because I knew journos would hate it. But it felt like a moral duty.”

As my colleague Zaid Jilani remarked: “I can imagine Paul Krugman standing in front of the mirror saying, ‘This is *your Tahrir Square* big guy.’” Nate Silver, early yesterday morning, even suggested that Krugman’s Clinton-defending column was so edgy and threatening that the New York Times — which published the column — was effectively suppressing Krugman’s brave stance by refusing to promote it on Twitter (the NYT tweeted Krugman’s column a few hours later, early in the afternoon). Thankfully, it appears that Krugman — at least thus far — has suffered no governmental recriminations or legal threats, nor any career penalties, for his intrepid, highly risky defense of Hillary Clinton. :sarcasm:

We all lose when Clinton wins. The Saudis, Russians, Big Pharma and the people that make Robitussin are the only winners with a Clinton Presidency.

Exactly. Anyone that thinks we should be concerned with the Russians is a fear mongerer(sp?) and/or a simpleton. If anything, Russia needs the US and for all the reasons that Cid has masterfully laid out. Russia (Putin) is smart enough to know that your enemy is a your friend. America just has to wake up and realize that Russia has more value as a strategic partner than a foe.

You'd basically be making my commute home. Savor it. Also, there's no way in hell you leave DC on a weekday at 3pm and make it to Sambos by 5. Maybe 6. You will back up transitioning to 50 in New Carollton, regardless of which direction you come from, then you'll back up badly two miles before the Severn Bridge, then a short backup at the Bay Bridge. It's worse now that summer vacations are over and everyone is back to work.

I guess Gary Johnson won't forget where Aleppo is anytime soon. If that had happened to Drumpf or Hildabitch, a "sound bite" would have become three days of "in-depth analysis."
