Worst Performance: Sacramento St. 30, (DII) Western Oregon 38 - 3 Hornet turnovers and poor punt coverage allow Western Oregon to get their first DI win in 15 years.

Most Surprising Result: (#14) Eastern Washington 45, (FBS) Washington St. 42 - The Eagles have now scored at least 42 points in their last three FBS games (all Pac-12).

Most Surprising Result: Abilene Christian 21, (FBS) Air Force 37 - They were never really in the game at any point, but I expected the Wildcats to get massacred here.

Worst Performance: Southern Illinois 30, (FBS) Florida Atlantic 38 - OK, this wasn't really that bad, but SIU was the only MVFC team to lose a realistically winnable game.

Most Surprising Result: (#8) South Dakota St. 41, (FBS) TCU 59 - They didn't have enough defense to pull it off, but the Jackrabbits were within 4 points of the #13 Horned Frogs with less than 10 minutes to go.

    vs. FCS: 1-2
    Overall: 1-2

Best Performance: Tennessee St. 44, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 0 - The Tigers' margin of victory here was greater than in all four of their wins from last year combined. It was also their largest margin in a DI win since 2011.

Worst Performance: Tennessee Tech 7, Wofford 21 - It wasn't quite as bad as last year's loss in Spartanburg, but the Golden Eagles were still outrushed 346-41.

Most Surprising Result: (#3) Jacksonville St. 31, (DII) North Alabama 12 - This was actually closer than 10 of JSU's 13 wins from last season.

Most Surprising Result: Morehead St. 7, (#12) James Madison 80 - Despite all the progress they made last season, the Eagles somehow find a way to be humiliated even worse than they were last year in Harrisonburg.

Tomorrow: the rest of the playoff conferences.

I actually was slightly surprised that Jacksonville State won by the margin they did. North Alabama is a perennial D-II playoff team (11 times in past 13 years) The last time they played Jacksonville State in 2013, when Jacksonville State went on to the FCS quarterfinals, the Gamecocks beat the Lions 24-21 in double overtime.

That brought the head to head between the two teams since Jacksonville State left D-II to one win each as North Alabama beat a Gamecock I-AA playoff team by 28-16 in 2003.

I know this year's Jacksonville State team is believed to be better than either of those previous Jacksonville State playoff teams the Lions played but, still, I don't think North Alabama is likely to be a cupcake from the perspective of a FCS team; even a very good one. At least you don't think that from North Alabama's history. Actually the extent to which Jacksonville State dominated North Alabama this time makes me wonder if North Alabama is kind of down this year. We'll see.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

UNA is 15th. in the DII preseason poll, so I don't think they're really expected to be down. I don't follow DII close enough to actually know, though.

Ha! I didn't know where they were ranked pre season. But my guess is that's a low pre season ranking for North Alabama. I do know that in the final 2015 poll at D2football.com they were rated 8th.

I mentioned a more recent thing earlier but this is a program that has been in the D-II playoffs 20 times in the last 31 years.
