Wichita State FB Feasbility Study

Post by HI54UNI »

Wichita State dropped football in 1986. Starting in 1987, it studied reviving the program eight times, most recently in 2007, and all came to largely the same conclusion — football costs a lot of money.

On Tuesday, Wichita State released its latest look at the football issue, a 69-page “Football Benchmarking Analysis” prepared by College Sports Solutions at a cost of around $60,000. Interim athletic director Darron Boatright will discuss the report Tuesday.

Football remains expensive and the report details start-up facility costs of more than $40 million and football budgets that start around $6 million annually.

As Boatright said recently, the release of the report is not considered a “confetti cannons” moment. The purpose of the report is not to make recommendations. It provides Wichita State with information regarding the steps necessary to start a football program, both at the lower-level Championship Subdivision and highest-level Bowl Subdivision, including cost, manpower, facilities and gender-equity compliance.

Very interesting. They have an impressive baseball and basketball history and they'd probably be a good addition to the MVC.

Makes you wonder, would they still be around if they hadn't loss so much in that plane crash.

Their football team was in a crash, right? I know Marshall was. But I thought there was a second school. I might look it up.

Copy Paste from AGS post.

Not gonna happen.

For a while I thought it might.

I can't see it happening right now.

Keep in mind that the $50m in facilities they estimated is a low side estimate. No way in hell they completely redo Cessna stadium for 21M....not a chance.

If WSU is going to do it they are going to do it big to try to fulfill their "We are a B12 team" fantasy. Their fan base won't "settle" for FCS. They can't be reasoned with for the competition level of FCS vs FBS. Nothing. Delusions of grandeur at it's finest.

Plus the yearly totals for running a program.

They have big donors, but I don'tthink they have enough to fund football the way they'd want and not impact basketball.

Kicker is without football they aren't going anywhere with their basketball program.

It's a nose/face situation.
