Can a Retired Marine General Nicknamed ‘Mad Dog’ Save the GOP?

Retired four-star general from the United States Marine Corps is increasingly being touted as a possible savior for a Republican Party whose two leading presidential nominees are widely disliked, not just among the general voting public, but inside the GOP as well.

James Mattis, who retired from the service in 2013, led combat troops in the Persian Gulf War and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Along the way, he earned the nickname “Mad Dog” and went by the radio call sign “Chaos.” However, he was also viewed as a deeply intellectual leader, whose dedication to study and the Marines earned him yet another nickname: “The Warrior Monk.”

“It's fun to shoot some people. I'll be right up there with you. I like brawling.

“You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years because they didn't wear a veil. You know, guys like that ain't got no manhood left anyway. So it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them.”

At the time, Mattis’ remarks drew a mild rebuke from the Marine Corps Commandant Michael Hagee, who conceded that Mattis “should have chosen his words more carefully.”

Recently, Mattis acknowledged his history of outspokenness.

“I’ve lived a very colorful life and I’ve said some things,” Mattis said in remarks at Columbia Basin College in his home state of Washington last year, according to Marine Corps Times. “But not once have I taken them back, and I’ve never apologized for them — and I won’t. I like the enemy knowing there are a few guys like me around.”
At least he doesn't pull any punches. ImageAnd he's an Eastern Washington native. :thumb:
well if the GOP is going to pull off a self coup d'état, might as well have a military general be a part of it for good measure

There is absolutely nothing to suggest that Cruz has the kind of emotional maturity and self control issues that Trump has. Listen, this is no small thing. When you are talking about putting Trump into the Presidency you are talking about a mentally ill individual. This is no small thing. Cruz may be unlikeable to you. But he's not mentally ill in the sense that Trump is.

And BTW I am not so much pro Cruz as I am anti Trump. My personal preference at the beginning was Rand Paul. If I could've picked any of the candidates who started off running that's who I would have picked. I would have been able to vote for Rubio. I would've taken Rubio before Cruz. I might have even taken Santorum before Cruz.

It's not that I particularly like Cruz. It's that Trump is TOTALLY unacceptable. Trump is the only person the Republicans could have nominated such that I could NOT vote for the Republican nominee. Carson is close. But that's only because he inexplicably endorsed Trump.

Well, maybe Christie too. Going in, I was a "no way I'd vote for Christie" person. Then he started to show some signs and I thought "well maybe." Then he endorsed Trump. So now he's firmly on my shit list again.

Only a fool would vote for Cruz. He simply can't be trusted

Well if you don't like Cruz it is what is is. There were plenty of decent Republican candidates to choose from at the start. But Republican Primary voters are in the process of picking the WORST possible alternative. Trust? Check this out:

Donald Trump Told So Many Lies Fact Checkers Couldn’t Pick Just One for Lie of the Year
Republican primary voters have already pretty much committed suicide. There were a number of candidates that would've had better shots at winning the general election than either Trump or Cruz. But Trump is the worst.

Transcribing a portion of the video available at http://www.politicususa.com/2015/12/21/ ... award.html:
Politifact's lie of the year goes to the most significant falsehood that we can find. But in 2015 we couldn't settle on just one. That's because of Donald Trump. Trump the billionaire business man who entered the race for President in June has made many big and bold statements. Unfortunately, most of them are inaccurate.

Well JSO's hero Theodore Cruise is teaming up with Kasich to try to stop Trump from getting the nomination.

How?

By picking and choosing which states to campaign in.

Ted Cruz, John Kasich join forces to stop Donald Trump

That's it, I'm taking the week off for the GOP convention!

The sweetest part will be when Trump gets the required delegates anyway. He's going to curb stomp both of the tards running against him in the Acela primary tomorrow.

And if the GOP rigs things enough that he doesn't get the nomination? Third party run. :thumb:

Either way, no Cruz in the White House, and that's a victory for America.

Hillary in the WH isn't a victory....If know you think Cruz is worse, so you can call it not as bad of a loss for America..

Agreed, except for Cruz. He's the one thing that would be worse. I believe in a separation of church and state. Cruz is a radical zealot, and he wants me to be unemployed. Fuck him. I would vote for Hillary over that.

I like the fact that he's already working backroom deals to try to steal the nomination.

Cruz-Kasich incoming. The establishment wins again.

As I'm in the Philly TV market, I noticed the new ad Trump is running in PA and I like it. Succinct; covers his platform; good energy; not attacking or dirty. Thumbs up for The Donald.

There's more competition for Kasich's support. Paul Manafort (Trump's whore campaign adviser) was seen hunkering down with Kasich's chief aide at the DNC meetings last week. :twocents:
