That is an insane statement. Trump is factually wrong just about every time he states something as a fact. The only question is that of whether he is lying or just doesn't know what the hell is going on.

Trump: False

And yes I know Politifact may be biased. It's biased anyway because it's not like random samples of statements of facts made by candidates.

But it's pretty obvious that Trump either lies a lot or doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. It's pretty much obvious that it's an embarrassment to both the Republican Party in particular and the United States in general that he's doing as well as he is. Not a real good reflection on the United States electorate. You do have to wonder if it's really wise to have representative government when it could result in the selection of somebody like Trump as President. It really bolsters the "people are too stupid to govern themselves" argument.

And if somebody wants to make an argument for why the unwashed masses shouldn't be allowed to choose their own leaders what is going on right now with Trump is a great Exhibit A.

nice try. Conks own Trump, live with it.

The Trump thing is way worse than the Obama thing, by the way. I disagree with Obama on just about everything but at least he is an emotionally mature, rational human being. This Trump thing is just absurd. The fact that ANY substantial number of people would support somebody like that is really disconcerting. It really calls the quality of the population of the United States into question.

I don't disagree with the idea that "Conks" do "own" Trump. That's why I say it's an embarrassment to the Republican Party in particular. But either way there should be serious concern among rational people over the fact that an intellectually vacant, emotionally unstable/immature, dishonest even by the standards of politicians demagogue like Trump could be doing as well as he is.

The United States is only as strong as its people are. And what's going on right now with the Trump thing does not paint a real positive picture about the nature of the United States population.

You people act like this is no big deal. This is a big deal. This is serious.

Good grief, John, how high are you going to raise the "fvcking stupid" bar? Why would the traits you list not appeal to a base of halfwits screened by the Southern Strategy for those very same traits?

Sorry, but I agree with JSO.

Trump is almost as clueless as Sarah Palin, he flip flops even more rapidly than John McCain and John Kerry, he tops even Obama in empty bumper sticker campaign slogans and lack of substance. He raises the bar on everything that sucks about US campaigns and he set a new low with a literal dick-measuring contest.

He's worse than Cruz to me.

Cruz is way, WAY more competent to serve in a position like President than Trump is. Cruz actually understands the Constitution and our system of government. Trump has no clue. And Cruz is an emotionally mature adult. Trump is not.

Yes. It's not as though he'd stoop to the level of Trump in defaming a war veteran or believing the UN wants to force us all into living in hobbit homes.

Here's a nice little prophetic bit from 2013...
Republican Sen. John McCain then further criticized Cruz, declaring: “No one on this committee at any time should impugn [Hagel's] character or his integrity.” Even Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, who's in the midst of anti-Obama chest-thumping ahead of a 2014 primary, said that many of Cruz's accusations and demands were “out of bounds, quite frankly.” One Republican senator told Politico anonymously that Republican senators are getting “annoyed” by Cruz's tactics.

Make no mistake: Ted Cruz will almost certainly run for president one day. And like Michele Bachmann, known for her insane conspiracy theories, endless obstructionism, and undying love for the Tea Party, he won't get out of a primary. Like Bachmann, he has no appeal to the vast majority of Americans who want to get something done in Washington. Like Bachmann, he is supremely unlikable. Like Bachmann, Cruz has now been criticized by Sen. McCain and fellow Republicans for specious attacks against fellow Americans that serve no positive purpose.

And while he sounds smarter than Bachmann (unless you listen to the words he's saying), Ted Cruz is stupid in major ways. Six weeks into his term, Cruz is earning the ire of his own party and building a national reputation as a complete obstructionist willing to use baseless accusations and conspiracy theories to justify his actions. Remember, Ted Cruz thinks the U.N. is implementing an initiative called Agenda 21 to force us to live in hobbit homes. If Ted Cruz were smart, he wouldn't be so crazy and divisive when representing a state steadily coming over to the Democrats – or harboring hopes of getting elected president.

Both Cruz and Trump are full of shit...but Cruz is really, really sincere about it...

Somebody on here said that the scariest thing is that Cruz actually believes the rhetoric he spews, and that is really the heart of the matter here.

Cruz would be an absolute disaster. Trump would work with everyone to get shit done.

 :+1:

What everyone is forgetting is the first rule of politics is tell the people what they want to hear. Trump is just turning it up to 11. If he was running on the Dems side he would be further left than Bernie.

He's just saying what he needs to say to get the nomination.

Once he secures that, he'll move towards the center, slightly center-left, so he can pull the independent votes, and steal some who aren't enamored with Clinton and who thinks that Sanders is too extreme.

I honesty look forward to a Trump presidency.

Those who think that this country will collapse completely on Jan 21, 2017 when DT is sworn into office is just as insane as those who truly believe that Trump believes the rhetoric he spews.

To win your party's nomination, you have to be a "true believer of the cause".

To win the general, you have to be able to show that you can work with both sides of the aisle to get shit done. Bernie won't compromise at all, neither will TD Cruise Bank.

In terms of working with the other party I would go

Trump
Kasich
Clinton

and tied for a distant fourth...

Cruz/Sanders

The problem is that a majority of Americans place too much faith and believe into who the POTUS is, not realizing that their local and state elections are just as important. Just like the black woman who was shown everywhere saying that Obama was "gonna pay my mortgage, I won't have to worry about a thing", millenials really think that Sanders will do the same for them, ultraconservative theocrats on the right feel the same way about Pastor Teddy.

I laugh when I hear people say that the president needs to compromise to get shit done. Obama never compromised, did whatever the fuck he wanted, and got what he wanted done. Seriously people, stop thinking that compromise is needed to get shit done...especially when the next POTUS gets to sway the SCOTUS in their favor.

Yeah, in spite of tearful entreaties from Congress, Obama keeps refusing to compromise.

what exactly did Obama "get done" that he didn't have to compromise on? :suspicious:

Those executive orders? Nothing that couldn't be immediately rolled back in the next POTUS's first day in office.

Obamacare (yeah Pelosi/Reid shoved it through but that was his main platform in ’08). He dealt with a conk controlled congress for most of his 8 years and implemented whatever programs he wanted without input from anyone (ie no budgets were passed that would have required compromise, limited the scope/spending of those programs). The conk austerity measures that Boehner “negotiated” were rolled back once Obama needed them out of the way. Obama has pwned the conks every step of the way on everything, how is that not getting his way on everything?

The only minor blips were a few SCOTUS decisions that went against him, but the next POTUS (hilldog) will be sure they don’t get in the way next time.

Gotta agree with SDHornet here. You can hate Obama's policies all you want, but you gotta admit that Congress has basically been his bitch. Obviously he's lost some battles, but since his second term began, he's had a pretty easy time outmaneuvering Congress.

The sad thing is they bitch and moan about Obama sidestepping their authority, but Congress has basically ceded their authority with their own internal schisms. They can stop him if they actually tried.
