And yet, even in a spectacularly good poll for Trump, 48% of those not supporting him in the primary said they were likely to do so in the general election,

It wasn't 48% who said they definitely would not support Trump. The lady said that 48% either said they definitely would not support trump OR were not likely to support him. I am accurately reporting what she said.

I couldn't find anything in the articles you linked saying that but even if it's true it's not inconsistent with what the lady said. BTW I wish I could give you her name but I didn't write it down. She's with the National Review and anti Trump so you can take that into account. But the fact that she's against Trump doesn't automatically mean she's lying.

Anyway she said that 48% of Republicans either say they absolutely will not vote for Trump or are not likely to. If the 28% figure goes with "absolutely not" and you have 20% saying "not likely" that's 48%. And if it's true that 48% say they would likely vote for him that's actually a pretty darned low number. Obviously it's mathematically possible to have 48% say they either will not or probably won't vote for him and have another 48% say they probably will vote for him. But if you've only got 48% of Republicans...less than half...sayiing they're probably going to vote for Trump in the general if he's the nominee it's pretty clear that the Republicans are going to be in trouble if Trump is the nominee.
