Democrats should be praying it's the Donald.

Anybody else and it's a shoe-in for a GOP President. With the Donald, it's going to be close against Hillary

(who should be ahead of him by something like 40 points but she isn't)

Electoral map favors Democrats. Heavily.

Only way a Republican wins is if Hillary is the Democratic nominee and she is indicted.

And, if it's Clinton vs. Trump... we're just all around fucked.

Don't give me that crap, analjelly. You'll be the first in line to vote for the Hildabeast at your Blowing Cock polling station. :coffee:

I saw a funny quote the other day where a guy said that the only good news in a Trump-Clinton matchup is that one of them is guaranteed to lose.

Bullshit.

I can say with 100% confidence that I will not vote for Hillary. Can't stand her. Have never defended her on here.

I originally started posting on the political board on AGS to curb stomp Travis when it was Obama vs. Hillary. I have a longer posting history being anti-Hillary than anti-Republican. ;)

So you're staying home on election day when Hillary and Trump are in a dead heat?

Color me skeptical

Just because you couldn't make yourself stay home twice for Bush doesn't mean everyone else has ideological discipline. :kisswink:

Hillary and Trump wouldn't be in a dead heat. Trump ain't carrying swing states in a general election. And, look at the electoral map if you need a refresher for the number of swing states he would need to carry.

But, I would be voting 3rd party regardless.

After watching last night, and of course the results over the past few weeks, it's pretty clear that Rubio and Cruz have no chance of beating Trump. It's like a man among boys in these debates and Trump is just heads and shoulders above these guys. Trump may be a buffoon, but he can play to the camera so much better than anyone else in the GOP primary. This thing is over, Ivy is going to be on the losing end of this one. And just like people (including me) underestimated the drawing power of Trump, the Dems have to be nervous when he becomes the GOP nominee - when he gets on TV he just sucks up all the air in the place. Those debates in the fall are going to be interesting no matter who the Dems put up. Politics in 2016 is reality tv and despite Trump's many flaws, you gotta give it to him, he understands reality tv very well.

Trump has no idea what to do if he wins, which should scare everyone. He'll probably add a few stories to the White house and gild the west wing.
Trump's success has been the perfect storm - too many mediocre candidates who hung on too long to divide the vote and a populace who's tired of establishment candidates. Had this been a 3-4 person race for the last few months I think Rubio would likely be in the lead, but the fragmentation has destroyed most chances for anyone besides the donald from winning.

I think Romney v. Trump would have been a good race. Meanwhile, at least we'll get to watch Hillary squirm while Trump opens up everything to Hillary that Bernie wouldn't during the D vs. R debates.

GF is right. Last night was Rubio's best, and it just wasn't good enough. There was one part where Rubio was trying to shout over Trump, and if you focused on Rubio, he wasn't even speaking complete sentences, just spouting random insults: "Donald... um, illegal workers from Poland... um, you're repeating yourself.... um, four bankruptcies... uh uh where's my water bottle."

Donald's victory was that he drug a desperate Rubio to such a level and Rubio was still ineffective while taking the low road.

I didn't watch it, but it's sad that American politics are less about what you as a candidate stand for and more about how bad the other guy's dirty laundry happens to be. I don't love Rubio, but I do applaud his idealism with trying to stay mostly positive and on message with his campaign vs. what Trump and Cruz have done. Rubio seems like a good guy and may be our president some day, but he's going to have to learn how to mud wrestle in order to do so.

Stop it, Rubio is a good looking guy, but he doesn't seem to have any real knowledge in that head of his and he just comes off as being young and inexperienced to the point that you'd be scared if he's in a room of adults and whether they would let him speak or not. A cardboard cutout of Rubio would be just as effective.

Now, if you want to talk someone who actually would make a good President who was on the stage last night it would be Kasich - he speaks well, he has a pretty good policy plate, and he looks like a grown up. He could be an interesting VP pick if Trump thinks he needs to win Ohio and can't do it on his own. But that would be two white guys on the ticket so that might be a non-starter.

Why should people be scared? We're electing a President, not an all powerful dictator/ruler. He'll be limited by the checks and balances that exist today. It's not like Obama has gotten very much done so why would we think Trump would do so much more? This idea of being scared of any candidate (Trump for being a buffoon, Hillary for being a criminal, Bernie for just being a crazy old kook) is silly. Whoever wins the election isn't going to break the country.

You know what I mean - Obama has been an embarrassment on the world stage, and Trump would likely be ever more so. It's not like you can really tarnish the rest of the worlds' image of America any more than it already is, but what does it say about us if he's elected? Either the pool of candidates is microscopically shallow, or Americans are super susceptible to the cult of personality, or some combination of both.
Is it too much to ask to not simply tread water during the next administration? I don't want someone who's saving grace will be not breaking the country - instead I want to see some forward progress.

Naw that's not how it went down. Rubio played to the lols of the crowd with his well timed quips and one liners, and it visibly flustered Trump to the point of him resulting to screaming over other candidates and repeating his regular message of "everybody loves me, I'm great, look at my polls". Rubio didn't need to say much in those shouting matches except stand there with a smile and let Donald continue to make himself look a buffoon. Unfortunately that won't matter on election day.

A8 pretty much nailed it, Trump capitalized on a conk field with too many candidates early on (and really still now). I don't see how people think Trump will be effective. Entertaining yes. And I doubt Trumps debate antics go over well when he is battling hilldog.

If I were Carson, and was hellbent on sticking around, I would steal Trumps schtick. I would go around and give his speeches, his, "everybody loves me, I'm great, look at my polls" and just continue to burn this primary into the ground.

Carson doesn't have the charisma to pull that off...but it would be funny.
