Swing and a miss. Stupid people are stupid, and just like with booze, getting stoned ain't gonna make you any smarter or lead to better decision making.89Hen wrote:

Hey, that's not a valid comparison, cause one is already legal everywhere and the other isn't.kalm wrote:I wonder if alcohol related hospital visits even got close to 168 in 2014???89Hen wrote:

Re: Proud Potheads Pushback: Public Perceives Problem "Stoners"
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/won ... marijuana/There's a body of research showing that painkiller abuse and overdose are lower in states with medical marijuana laws. These studies have generally assumed that when medical marijuana is available, pain patients are increasingly choosing pot over powerful and deadly prescription narcotics. But that's always been just an assumption.
Now a new study, released in the journal Health Affairs, validates these findings by providing clear evidence of a missing link in the causal chain running from medical marijuana to falling overdoses. Ashley and W. David Bradford, a daughter-father pair of researchers at the University of Georgia, scoured the database of all prescription drugs paid for under Medicare Part D from 2010 to 2013.
They found that, in the 17 states with a medical-marijuana law in place by 2013, prescriptions for painkillers and other classes of drugs fell sharply compared with states that did not have a medical-marijuana law. The drops were quite significant: In medical-marijuana states, the average doctor prescribed 265 fewer doses of antidepressants each year, 486 fewer doses of seizure medication, 541 fewer anti-nausea doses and 562 fewer doses of anti-anxiety medication.
But most strikingly, the typical physician in a medical-marijuana state prescribed 1,826 fewer doses of painkillers in a given year.

"Legal pot and car crashes: Yes, there's a link
....Legalized recreational marijuana use in Colorado, Oregon and Washington correlates to about a 3 percent increase in auto collision claim frequencies compared to states without such legislation, according to a new Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) study. It's the first one the group has conducted since the drug went on sale legally...
....focused on three states -- Colorado, where legal marijuana retail sales started in 2014, as well as Oregon and Washington, where sales began in 2015 -- and compared them to the collision claims in neighboring states such as Nevada and Utah, parts of which now allow only medical marijuana. It also factored in statistics regarding the three states where recreational use is now legal from before it became available to the general public.
Colorado saw the largest estimated increase in claim frequency -- 14 percent more than its bordering states, while Washington state was 6 percent greater and Oregon had a 4 percent increase. Allowing for the total control group, "the combined effect for the three states was a smaller, but still significant at 3 percent," said HLDI Vice President Matt Moore...."

Its a states' rights issue. Be it abortion, gay marriage, pot legalization and most anything else not mentioned in the constitution, the fed govt (including fed courts) should have no say one way or the other- it should be left up to the states. Not state courts, but the people to be able to say one way or another through either referendum or their elected representatives.Skjellyfetti wrote:Are you against marijuana legalization, BDK?
Now as far as my state (PA) I'm kind of on the fence..

No, but if the people of a state voted to do that (by referendum or through their elected reps) then that should be their right...kalm wrote:Are you on the fence regarding criminalization of alcohol?BDKJMU wrote:
