Dunno, but that measly 25-basis point hike the Fed finally approved has nothing to do with the market tanking, and reversing it wouldn't do a damn thing.AZGrizFan wrote:Has the Fed ever raised rates and then immediately LOWERED rates in successive meetings?

Re: Stocks
I think much of the effect is coming from the end of QE. The latest earnings are being compared to the QE era, which is a difficult hurdle. In addition, the market thought the interest hikes would have begun months ago. I think there may have been a run on stock buybacks leading up to that expected liftoff time. When a company buys back stock, it "falsely" raises their EPS because of the lower number of shares in the equation. Again, this creates difficulty in comps. But if the economy was growing at 3-4%, like it should be doing, all of this would be much less of a problem. Thanks, Obama.AZGrizFan wrote:I just think it's funny that they felt they HAD to move rates, and this shit happens immediately after....Ivytalk wrote: Dunno, but that measly 25-basis point hike the Fed finally approved has nothing to do with the market tanking, and reversing it wouldn't do a damn thing.![]()
The market will be volatile/sideways for another 12 months. Good for traders, bad for "buy and hold" investors.

Economy hasn't grown consistently in the 3-4% range for about 15 years. 2% is now considered GOOD.CAA Flagship wrote:I think much of the effect is coming from the end of QE. Wouldn't matter. It isn't entirely a supply issue. Demand has been declining. The declining demand is one of the variables spooking markets. It's just more evidence that a recession is coming in 2016.93henfan wrote:He really needs to bow down again to the Saudi King, maybe stroke his dong a little, and ask them to cut production.AZGrizFan wrote:FML. Re: Stocks
I think I'm going to wait until the end of February and invest more into the market. Even though it's dipped this year, I'm still up a nice amount from last year at this time. I know diversifying your portfolio is key, but some of the stocks that have done me well are very tempting to invest into 'cause I think they're going to rebound and hit even higher levels.
My 401K is bleeding money so far though. But it'll rebound too.

Finance 101 - don't try to time the market.
