Yes - gosh darnit - they are...
The only reasonable solution is complete freedom FROM religious preference at the Federal Level

WHERE IN THE CONSTITUTION DOES IT LIST "CREATION OF HOLIDAYS" AS A RESPONSIBLILTY OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT?????
FEDERAL HOLIDAYS ARE UNCONSTITUTIONAL AND SHOULD BE LEFT TO THE STATES!!

What about the BS from the Christian "interest group"?BDKJMU wrote:I didn't say mandatorySkjellyfetti wrote:

However states and/or localities do have the OPTION to exercise common sense by using the only going to recognize fed holidays as an excuse to not have to put up with all of this BS of having some interest group holidays off..and then dealing with protests of the ones they don't give off for..

Not sure about roving holidays, but I have no idea how that would work anyway. If school is in session, it's not a holiday, it's an excused absence. Kids can do that now. Shit, Ferris missed school nine times last semester and still graduated.93henfan wrote:89, I listen to WTOP about 1.5 hrs a day<script id="gpt-impl-0.6024499549008782" src="http://partner.googleadservices.com/gpt ... What happened to the proposal of three roving religious holidays to be selected by the individual? I thought that was on the table?
They explained on WTOP that the original reason for doing Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur was that 40% of the seats were empty on those days in the early 70s when they first started giving days off for Jews. But that was when MontCo was a fairly new suburb and it was mostly Christian and Jews.
I'm guessing that with all the riff raff that has moved into Montgomery County now that there is rarely going to be a 40% vacancy beside Christmas. That place is loaded with all the non-deodorant wearing religions now (Hindu, Jew, Muslin, Buddhist, etc plus Mexicans, Haitians, Nigerians, etc).
You are correct that the demographics are all over the place. My local HS is probably about 30% white Christian, 30% white Jewish, 30% Asian mixed religion (this includes Indian and Pakistani) and 10% Muslim. But go over to Wheaton HS and it's 40% white Christian, 40% Hispanic Christian, 20% others. Point being, there is no standard number in my county that works for the county as a whole.

Re: Eid al-Adha
I do, but this one is WAY down the list of reasons. Like I said, this doesn't bother me at all. My kids don't go and have never gone to public schools. My only real interest in public schools around here is that they stop spending my damn money to build $45M grade schools.BDKJMU wrote:Sounds like you need to move to a new county..89Hen wrote:Our county school board just approved closing schools next September 12th for Eid al-Adha (Muslim holy day). They already have off for Christmas as well as Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur (both of which were in September this year). I don't have a problem being fair to all religions, but this could really open the flood gates. To give you an idea, we have more Mormons in my county than Muslims. So where does this stop? Just looking at September from this past year...
