I caught some of Gameday this morning, by far the best sign I saw was " FCS Lives Matter."

Lots of great signs but I agree Raul. That one made me laugh every time.

JMU and their fans did a great job...NDSU and JMU do it right

My favorite part was the tribute to the great FCS players past and present...nice job

Kirk Herbstreit was silent but thinking but... but... but... how would they do against real talent

Loved the part about Towson giving LSU a fight in '12. That 12 team would have given the post season a run!

There was a Maury Povich themed sign that made me chuckle.

SI campus rush:
"Desmond Howard trotted to the back of the makeshift stage on James Madison University's quad with a smile on his face. The Heisman trophy winner had just finished another live broadcast of ESPN's College Gameday, the longest running pregame show in college football. The Gameday crew made an unlikely stop for the Dukes' ranked battle against the Richmond Spiders. It was the first FCS visit for Gameday since it visited North Dakota State last season.

"That was amazing," Howard said. "Seriously, I've never seen anything quite like that."

Sure, naysayers would argue that the analysts say these things after every show at every school. But this time, it was glaringly different.

Kirk Herbstreit and celebrity guest picker Dierks Bentley were taking selfies while the Dukes' faithful celebrated in the background. There were high fives, laughs and celebrations from everyone involved with ESPN.

For three hours, it was almost as if the professional walls had been knocked down. It seemed like a group of friends talking about college football with a crowd of their closest friends.

Maybe the crew was just excited and caught in the moment. Maybe they are pumped up after every show. But one thing is for certain, this was the biggest sports event to ever hit the grounds of.

Students began piling onto the quad on Thursday night, hoping to secure primetime positioning for the Saturday morning show. On Friday during College Football Live, David Pollack and Samantha Ponder were almost drowned out by the raucous fans. Ponder said that it was the largest crowd ever for the Friday afternoon broadcast.

Saturday morning resembled a scene from the movie Animal House. A DJ blared Drake's "Hotline Bling," as an estimated crowd of 12,000 Dukes fans danced while anxiously awaiting the start of the show.

Throughout the broadcast, the crowds erupted while holding makeshift signs with catchy phrases (as is tradition). It was energetic and interactive. JMU proved itself as the perfect destination.

So why exactly did College Gameday choose JMU? There were a few reasons. The first, and most obvious, is that the show's producer, Lee Fitting is an alum. The second is that the Dukes went in to the day with a (7–0) record and was ranked No. 5 in the FCS. Finally, it was a slow week for college football, with few glamorous games on the ticket.

Fitting, who received a hero's welcome from the crowd, was elated after the broadcast.

"Words can't describe what that scene was," Fitting said. "That was, without bias, the greatest scene we've ever had for a show. It was unbelievable."

While the day didn't end well for JMU fans (Richmond won 59–49), they will always remember Oct. 24, 2015. That was the day that their football program hit the national spotlight.

Who knows if it will ever happen again, or what the future holds for the JMU Dukes. But current students and alumni will live in the moment.

"It meant a lot to see my school on that platform," Chase Leonard, a 2011 graduate of JMU said. "The passion and pride shown on campus reflects the strengths of the not only the student body but the community as a whole. Even though we lost the game, we won the show. I'm proud to call myself a Duke.""
